There was a thread by Lambolica about cleaning ISCV's. If I remember correct you have to clean the oily sludge buildup that keeps the ISCV sticking open, but there are some precautions to take when doing this.

Try do a search and you may find his thread.

Step 1, check to see if it has power.

yeah if i put my hand over the "outlet" of the ISCV but not block it off fully it idles almost perfect. the problem is with my custom plenum its virtually impossible to get the bolts off to clean it! im not sure a way around it other than loosening a engine mount and jacking it up on one side...

old engine bay pic but you get the idea, from the top you can barely get your hand in there let alone a tool. and from underneath you can possibly get one of them with a big extension but not the other

as per what Wilbo has said, check if the ISCV has 12v power to it, if it doesn't it will be in the fully open position (factory ECU does this for quick startup) so cleaning it won't do sweet FA.

IF it has got power then and only then would i try to remove it and clean it.

IF your to lazy to do that the grab a big set of sidecutters and clamp the pipe down until you have reached the desired idle when hot (needed a quick fix on my hilux/surf/wreck thingy)

    cheers

I have the same ISCV problem, stuck at a certain position. Plugged in another ISCV from a 1G, that worked perfectly. It seems the valve is stuck on the 1JZ ISCV, I can hear the stepper motor trying to move the valve when I apply power to the middle pins and ground the outer pins, but the valve never moves. Soaked it in WD40 for a few hours too, still wont budge.

Short of hitting the thing with a hammer, is there any way to pull it apart?

again, the problem is getting the ISCV off the bottom of the plenum TO clean it., as far as i can tell there was no outlet pipe on it. could a engine breather be used in place of it?

im pretty sure its got power since its only done it recently

if it was working previously then you only have 1 option to fix it, remove it and either clean it or replace it with a known good one.

id still double check that it has power first though it there is no point replacing it if the power ain't there.
