the main thing im wondering is how it is running and revving to 6500rpm with the AFM disconnected
hi,
i bought another MA61 and it has a 5mge in it. the fools that did the conversion decided to use the 5me loom and ecu.
it runs however it runs very bad. it appears to be running extremely rich. to the point that it fouls the plugs and then runs even worse.
the CSI and injectors arent leaking as ive disconnected all of them and tried cranking. the result was no firing so there must not be any leakage
here are the things that are baffling me
- it runs pretty much the same with the AFM connected or not. when its connected it seems to run even more rich. i dont understand how it can rev out to 6000rpm with it disconnected?!?!

- it runs the same with TPS disconnected. though it is probably is a switch type so its not relevant.
i had a google search and couldnt find any info on using 5me loom and ecu on a 5mge but im hoping someone here will have some information.
i am hoping that there is some incompatibility that would be causing this problem. i would love to get the engine running good before i pull it out.
what are my options? try fix this Frankenstein setup? or try get a 5mge loom and ecu. its a little bit annoying because i just sent away all my 5mge gear![]()
help appreciated
cheers

hello
I had a 6M-GE running off a 5M-E ECU and loom for several years. It was heavy on fuel but worked perfectly fine. I suspect you have some sort of wiring problem or a dud AFM, there's no reason why the setup you have shouldn't be OK.

i might try find another ecu then for starters. ill also try get another loom and afm.
i plugged in a 7m afm and it has the same problems.
i still cant understand how it runs with no afm :S
can you elaborate on what you had to do to swap over the 5me gear onto the 6m?
ie everything plugged in or did you have to change some sensors? the dizzy on this engine looks dodge so i think it may be a 5me one if thats possible.
thanks for your help
hello
5ME does ignition advance in the dizzi where as 5mge is in the ECU.
the pin-outs on the AFM should be the same (Both have a AIT, AFM and fuel pump switch).
It's suggest you get a loom from an MX73 - sounds like yours has been frankenstiened very badly.
I used the dizzy, AFM and TPS from the 5M-E, from memory everything else was the same.
The 5M-E engine management system is really simple, it's basically an electronic carby, not a lot can go wrong.

i rewired the loom between the AFM and ECU and there was a little improvement but it still runs shithouse.
i tried a 7mge afm with little improvement however it still blows black smoke at idle (rich)
definately need to track down another ecu and afm on monday
hello
ECU must be fucked
im getting 9-10V for the VS pin (afm output voltage)
should be in this vicinity

hello
Bit of an assumption that 5me is the same as 5mge tho!(You linked to the TSRM which is 5mge...)
Cheers

problem was the ecu.
put another one in and it runs nearly fine. something wrong with the mixture/ timing at full throttle though. i think the previous retard owner played with the afm
hello
Yay, problem solved eh
I'm sure a stock AFM is easy enuf to come across
Cheers
