No normal Koni Yellow, KYB, etc is made to handle those kinds of spring rates.
Matching dampers to your spring rate is super important for good handling.

If you are going to play around with spring rates a lot, i suggest you look at the Koni Racing line of inserts.
They have separate compression and rebound adjusters and will handle a large range of springs (ie, 150lb -> 500lb).

I got the 8611-1259race Konis for my RA28.

These are looking good! Did you buy them locally? There seems to be a few good deals in the states for them, just not sure on shipping.

PS. did you have any trouble allowing for the lower adjustment knob on the insert with the OEM strut casing?

In the race ones they seem to have fixed the problem with the oil overheating due to the size of the cartridge.

As for the adjustment knob, i would be cutting down the strut to suit, but youll probably still need a spacer in the bottom.

but thats the main problem with them, while im yet to see 1 snap the stubaxles are tiny and i have seen them fracture/bend before. wouldn't want to be flogging 1 round a track if/when they do snap as that would be a fairly scary way to pull a car up.

rear 225lb/in rear(coil over) with TRD blue 48531-AE831 shocks
adj height panhard rod to adj roll centre
equal length upper arms
Cusco rose jointed arms

Works very well, car is very neutral. shocks are set to position 3 front and 3 or 4 rear depending on bumps.

Do you find that the rear binds at all going into Northern gixer? I was finding that i was getting oversteer on decel through Northern (and a lesser degree through southern), and im finding some interesting paint scratching marks on the upper drivers side trailing arm.

Takai, are you running equal length upper arms? If not you will find binding as the short upper fights the longer lower arm, on a lowered AE86 the angle of the short upper is really bad, the rear end just fights itself, you really need to go to equal length to allow all 4 arms to move thru the same arc and work together not agaisnt each other.

It has too limited travel. There are others in the 8611 line that have a longer stroke.

Ill be using a spacer with a hole drilled up the middle so i can get access to the adj screw without removing the strut from the car.

Cheers for the info, I will get in touch with those guys. Car is not going to be road registered, track only, so no worries about street use.

I may get back to you to get some details about that spacer if I end up going with the Koni's.

Ok been looking at coilover sleeve kits. The T3 kit is ridiculously cheap(<$250 delivered) and includes springs in your choice of spring rates! But I have a couple of reservations:

1. The spring perch appears to use a grub screw to lock it into position instead of a dual locking nut type arrangement I see on most kits.
2. Its made of alloy with a steel ring to weld to the strut. I am not sure if this is a plus(weight saving) or a minus(strength)?

Another kit from P.A.S.S. again in the states looks very good! (http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?cmd=print&id=8541). A little more expensive but I think it might be worthwhile?

The stuff from the states looks attractive with the aussie $ at the moment, the local offerings seem a little overpriced in comparison(koni, Noltec, AJPS etc.)? Unless someone can point me in the direction of a supplier with good pricing? I'm not too concerned about local support for something like this. Once its welded on what can go wrong?

I'm leaning towards the P.A.S.S kit - unless someone can persuade me otherwise?

look rather decent, although have smaller threads than the ground control ones. fine for the steel threads, maybe not so good for the alloy threads...

with a locknut design, each half of the locknut pushes different direction.. so one is pushing with spring, one is pushing against spring..
there are pros and cons of each design.
