    Default 7M rebuild prices?

Hey there everyone. Not quite sure if this should be here or in general, so if it is in the wrong section, please change it mods.

I was wanting to know how much people have paid for rebuilds on 7MGTE's, and what they had done to factor into price. ie, stock specs, MHG's, etc etc.
i did a bit of a search, but couldnt turn up much, although i am sure that i have read some somewhere. Also, has anyone had any experience with buying exchange long blocks from repco or engine rebuilders and was that good / bad?

I realise that it is very much a how long is a piece of string type question, but if i can get an ac/curate idea, rather than my own general 'guestimation', that would be great.

Thanks very much in advance peoples, much appreciated.
    Lee.

I'm doing my HG as we speak... $600 for a 2mm HKS MHG (lol, which i got for free...YAYE!!!), $200 for head machining and $220 for a VRS Kit. Labouring is done in-house so $0 for that. So all up $1,020 ($420 for me) which i think is prety damn cheap, correct me if i'm wrong.....

the HKS 2mm job should be about $250 AUD if u order it online.. the ARP Studs should be about $190 (Thats about what ImportBitz has them for). Decking and honing the block and shaving the head should set you back anywhere from $200-400.. All up id be budgeting around 800-1000 for it if you take the block out yourself and the head as well and give it to them to do, or about 1000-1200 if you get them to do that for you.

And then budget extra for rings, bearings etc (would you really use the old ones?) coz most machining shops will want a blank block

And if you are after alcheapo, get another engine around 1000-1400 with 3-6 months warranty and I am sure you will get a BHG within 3 months and get it properly repaired under warranty. Best bet is buy it from BACHAAAY. and you won't have to do anything. And try to build your current block slowly over time. And sell it afterwards or keep it.

thanks for all the replies so far guys.
that is coming in a bit cheaper than i thought.
has anyone bought all the rings, bearings, oil pump etc etc recently??
i know i can get quotes from shops around here, but im interested in knowing what people in the city are paying, and then comparing.
    thanks once again.

What about if you have had piston damage? Have to get the bores honed, new pistons, rings. Anything else on top of the regular BHG rebuild? Oh and I understand that this is the ultimate how long is piece of string question

i was actually meaning for a full rebuild. bearings, rings, pumps, machining, pistons etc.
obviously the machining will vary from engine to engine, but general idea of cost is always good.
the engine in question is chewing oil for breakfast and spitting it out the exhaust, and has lost compression out of 2 cylinders. ( its not mine, its in a car i was looking at buying )

Depending on how you want to rebuild it... there is a company out there that does engine replacements? Could be a go? You exchange your dead engine with a rebuilt one + $$.

the idea was to get a rough idea on how much a stock type rebuild would be.
looked at a car with a blown engine, and trying to work out how much it would be worth to me.
so far i have been given a rough quote of $3000 plus oil pump, but naturally that will depend on how much machining is involved.
also, if it is too far gone, then i would have to factor $1000 for another donor engine.
just wondering what other people have paid.

    hows it going,

I started the whole 7m rebuild but half way through found another complete rebuilt 7m with a few goodies for not much more than it was going to cost me to complete my 7m.

Anyway.. my 7m reeeally blew the head gasket, lost all coolant, got reallly hot and seized. Head was bent and cylinder walls were scored. There wasn't much other choice than to strip it completely down and replace the lot.

Heres a list of the costs i gathered

Second hand head for $190 (including shipping)
    Head re-surfaced for $60
    Hypereutectic pistons $228+GST
    Piston rings - $103+GST
    Cylinders bored/honed $160+GST
    Block decked - $60+GST
King (cheaper brand) Main and rod bearings - $130+GST
Complete Engine Gasket set $200-$250 (here)
    Cometic 3 layer MHG - $200-$250
    ARP head studs - $200-$250

Then theres fluids, belts, plugs, leads, etc so add another $5-600 for those aswell

kemicalx: any info on those hypereutectic pistons ie. brand, specs etc? My brother has an ma70 with a suspected blown piston and we have been looking at forged piston kits which are all $1k+
