Thanks, will try it (probably have a few times already but i'm willing to do anything! lol)

I should be able to try these things tonight, hopefully the batteries aren't too flat

Have you removed the damper and checked the washers are on the right sides? or that it's not blocked?
Honestly i'd definately be getting another TPS, that was an secondary part of my problem, was working on the old engine fine before i pulled it out but in the end it took replacing it to get my car running right.

I had a problem about a year ago. As soon as you properly accelerated or tried to move the revs even slowly past about 3000 it would cut out. Turned out that the plugs that connect the loom to the coil packs had died and wern't connecting properly.

THe plugs were about 6-10 buck each from toyota, part number: 90980-11246

    Maybe give that a bash.

The clips on the plugs to the coilpacks are a bit dodgy, not really holding the plugs on tight, but they are making contact with the pins it seems. I have had them off and back on, checking each of the plugs. I'm fairly confident they aren't causing the problem - but I could be wrong I'll take another look at them tonight, and I should be able to try another ECU tonight as well. Hopefully one of the two fixes the problem.

Will order new plugs ASAP too - can't hurt to fix them.

Have you managed to try a different ecu yet?
Have you pulled the plugs to see their condition? Bad plugs can cause big problems.
    Tried a different ignitor?
    Is the battery still good?

Hydra, can you get an actual Oscilloscope and not just using a multimeter, and have a GOOD look at the wave forms?
The multimeter might be telling some fibs...

Have you had the spark plugs out and had a look at them and checked there condition? Have you checked your ignition timing?

Also, unplug your knock sensor... ECU might be hearing "knock" from a dodgy sensor and totally killing ignition, has happened before.

Hydra I thought mine were connecting ok too, I'd pull any of them off and it would instantly stall. But replacing them fixed it. I assume its just that the isn't a good enough contact to flow enough current/ohm's/whatever at a higher load.

That part number is for the same thing on a camry so they should be in stock somewhere near you.

    Good luck!

Different ECU tonight with any luck. Thats one major thing I need to test out.

Plugs were in good condition, but in the end were black from too much fuel. Have swapped in some clean ones which made no difference. Battery by the end of the night had run out of juice, so I jump started the car and still had the same problems.

Haven't tried another ignitor yet - it's on the list of things to try out.

I'd like to test with an oscilloscope but I don't have access to one. I'm seriously considering buying one for times like this!

Knock sensor unplugging... interesting idea - i'll take a look at that tonight. Might just pull the pin from the ECU plug though - FAR easier than unplugging the knock sensor at night

Oh awesome, i'll see if the local toyota dealership can get them in. No doubt it'll be a pain to deal with them.

It's far easier to plug back in though if you unplug it at the sensor...

And an oscilloscope is great, as long as you'll definitely use one again.

I no doubt will need it again Jaycar has some cool USB one, but it's probably useless next to the "real deal".

Unplugging the sensor means I gotta jack the car back up in the air, while the ECU plug wires are fairly easy to remove - or at least less effort is required... I'll just make sure they get the correct labels

    Which USB one from Jaycar?

Some of the USB Oscilloscopes are actually quite good.
My old work was looking into getting a couple, and this was for use in very large, and electrically noisy industry.
