Just an idea, but is your O2 sensor working properly (I've got O2 sensors on the brain)? However, if it's not it should also be running pretty crap.
What's the engine like at idle, and acceleration?
Hi
Am in need of some help in regards to getting a 20V Silvertop through the emissions test.
Quick history is fitted motor to car and got it all going, Went to penrith and failed badly as everything was way over the limit. Took car home and fitted a second cat converter, new plugs, leads vacum lines and cleaned out the throttles and manifold with both carby cleaner and the Subi upper cylinder cleaner. Had the injecters checked and found a few air leaks which were fixed. Also heat wraped the exhaust manifold.
Went back to penrith again and failed again. The readings were lower this time round but still way off esp on the CO as it hadn't changed. Both the HC and the NOx saw a reduction but still need to better.
So anyone got any ides or tips to get them lower?
Thanks

AE86 shell - waiting for a donor car from the auctions.
Stock computer or aftermarket?
Fitted with cat convertor?
Any error codes logged on the ECU if its stock?
Is everything wired correctly if it's running the 20V ecu? No leaky caps inside the ECU?
read my 20V capacitor replacement guide:
http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27814
That might help - it made my 20V run a bit smoother.
How healthy is the engine? Worn rings?
...... butt scratcher?!
is it idle test? or full range test? or certain rpm test?
should be lots of info on yank sights abotu passing emissions testing
this help? http://www.type2.com/library/exhaust/comix.htm

Chrisso O2 senser is new and working a treat. Has developed a rough idle after the last test but was perfect before. Engine seems to be fine and goes like a rocket under and sort of acceleration
af300e Is the stock comp but the man who supplied the kit "Supposedly" did some mod to it to help with the emissions. Is running the 16V cast iron manifold with heat wrap stuff and shields as well as 2 cats straight off the flange.
JP No error codes and yes is wired correctly. The guy who modded the loom labeled everything for me to hook up.
Witzl haven't checked for leaky caps. The idea hadn't really occured to me but will have a look anyway. If they are leaky or even if they aren't could you do them anyway for a price of course.
Oldcorollas Thanks for the link. is a bit of help but not sure if there are any adjustments on the Toyota AFM or not.
As for the test it is on a dyno and the guy drives the car according to a preset graph on the screen in front of him. Takes 240 seconds to complete and goes from idle to 90KPH while running up and down the gears.

would an 86kW or 100kW aussie computer work with the 20 valve plug/wiring? or would that make it run lean, and send some emmisions up?

Anyone got a 86 or 100KW one they can lend me?

have you got the SPD (speed) signal going to the ECU?
I can fix your caps for around $50... cos it takes about an hour to do (is a little fiddly). You would have to be without an ECU for a few days though.

Sounds good to me.
PM me an address and will send next week or so.

Put the car on the dyno on Sat and tested the two computers for emissions output.
Ran it with the modified comp first and all the readings were high plus it was running rich as hell esp at idle for some reason.
Swapped it for the std computer and hey presto the emissions dropped way down to be spot on for the engine, The only time it ran rich was during the power run from 40kph to 90kph. Other than that it was all sweet.
Now here is where I really get pissed off as I rang the guy who supplied the modified computer to see if he could do anymore to it and was told that it must be something else on the car as his computer would be right to pass. GRRRR.
If itś running rich it will never pass fuckwad.
Anyway now that I feel a little bit calmer I was thinking that if I used a Motec or some other aftermarket programable computer than surely I could get it to pass with that.
So what would you guys recomend to use?
I really don want to go doing anymore wiring so one that will plug into the std loom would be a huge plus.
Or am I wrong in thinking an aftermarket comp will do this for me?

An aftermarket computer should do it for you as you can manually set the target AFR at points for load/rpm, or a similar adjustment.
Unfortunately I can't recommend anything as the only experience I have is with megasquirts, which aren't exactly plug and play unless it was built & set up for your engine.

If you are still having issues....
I just had do go to emissions with my laser, if i was only just a tiny bit over with a haltec.
My suggestion. If you can afford get a haltec E8, go to talk to Hitman in penrith leave the car with him and he will get it passed no worries.
Have a look into adaptronics, can run full closed loop mode all the time, adaptive learning/tuning from wideband, hell of a lot of bang for your buck. And i think one of the guys has just spent some time getting a (turbo?) car through full emissions testing, have a look through the forums over there, should find it pretty easily, i remember some good info/discussion in the thread.
