rx7 calipers are alloy are they not??? if i used skyline calipers i would be in the same boat as the hulux, cast iron, im tryint to keep the unsprung wait to a minimum, so an alloy caliper is requided.

join the club... i'm researching a simple(ish) way to use the rx7 callipers, with rotors that require the fewest mods. got a few leads, just need money to experiment, will keep you all posted

edit: the RX-7 calliper appears to be very close if not the same bolt spacing as the stock RA2x strut, where as the skyline and hilux are the same as the XT130 strut.

    Skyline is 100mm
    Hilux is 90mm

My R32 Skyline calipers are alloy, way lighter than Hilux.

The only way to go lighter than calipers like the cast skyline ones is aftermarket billet Wilwood,AP,Brembo and Alcon etc, then you have to worry about dust seals for legal reasons!

On this brake upgrade. I'll be fitting the Ke70 x-member and rack and pinion very soon, while I'm at it I'll be fitting the whiteline sway bars and upgrading the whole front end susy and brakes.

My questions are, what is the better option in stud patterns? Use the exsisting 4 stud and do the "pug and hilux" upgrade? or do some other 5 stud upgrade?
Whats the overall gain in switching to 5 stud?
Am i able to get heavy enough LSD dif to take 170-210RWkwts in a 4 stud?
Will the 4 stud difs match up track wise with the KE70 or will I need a larger offset rim?
If I stay with 4 stud am I looking at a lot less overall work?

    Related question:
Do I need the KE70 susy to complete the x-member swap? I had all these questions saved in PM but it got cleared.

    Thanks for any help.

    Nick

My engineer is recommending that i move to 5 stud hubs for a 1UZ conversion.
Hilux G series diffs also come with the 5x114.3 pattern.
There are two reasons for moving to 5-stud up front.

You can still do the pug/hilux conversion, but use MS65 hubs to get 5x114.3 (i have done this).

    Thanks again.

WDE_BDY - whatcha mean your '32 callipers are alloy? are they just GTS-t ones? 'cause those are definatly cast, got them on a mates '32..

kingmick - what's wrong with the alloy RX callipers?

MWP - problem with doing that is that the pug rotors need to be re-drilled, and since they're not a locally made rotor DBA won't supply them blank, (others might) so hence they're illegal...

I believe they are GTS-T 4 pot versions, half the weight of the cast iron Hilux calipers I looked at for another project.

The Alloy calipers may be lighter but they flex, so big brake pressure wil actually not put asmuch pressure on teh pad it will actually flex the caliper

    Really?
My engineer approved re-drilling the pug rotors for 5x114.3.
