I can't really help in regards to the heater problem, but as for building the console - I definitely recommend doing it yourself. Will cost you $50 - $100 in supplies if your going all out, but you can do it for even cheaper than that if you want. MDF frame - do the structural stuff in about 10mm, then the stuff thats on the top etc at like 3 or 6mm, black vinyl from lincraft or spotlight, thin foam from clark rubber, stretch and staple that on with a staple gun. I used the storage pocket for under the lid from another car, just picked up something suitable at the wreckers. It took me about 2 days I think but I've scrapped that one now I'm going back to stock(ish) dash and I want a different console that suits the shape better so the plan currently is to fibreglass a couple of different consoles together. Can I ask why you don't just the mount the headunit in the dash in place of the stock radio? If your dash hasn't been cut sell it off to someone who wants to keep theirs stock, then buy a cut dash for half the price, and then your set, plus you made about 50 bucks.

    Cheers, Matt

    hey mate,

yeah it is not even that my dash hasnt been cut, I have a storage compartment in there at the moment. basically, my heater core went bang, and none of my heater/vent controls really work properly, and i no i will find a better use for the space those vent controls are.

so i was basically looking at going something completely new. new heater box, new console, take my stereo out of my glovebox and mount it somewhere more accesible....well anyway, it wouldnt be a short term thing, its a project i am thinking about for the future...just wanted to see if anyone had some opinions or advice. which they have and its been great.

I def agree that doing it myself will be the way to go, def not worth paying BIG money for a pre made one....and where is the fun in that anyway.
