has this been physically verified with a crown/pinion count? and i dont mean a seat-o-pants-o-meter

it just seems whack - though toyota's whole approach to these diffs appears whack, this is just extra whack

Yep, checked them myself when i went from 3.92 open to 4.08 torsen II

Just dont ask me what the numbers where, i cant remember

Also, just to confirm something, the JZX100/IS200/300 diffs do come in 4.3:1, but they are a smaller 7.5", as i suspected

This guy is the major dealer in Toyota diffs on Yahoo.jp (bought two torsens off him) so i have reasonable confidence that what he says is correct...

ffs! this is madness. so what diff is in the jzx90 then ??

is it an A series 8" same as the jza80 supra A series? and can this use a ring gear off a G series? this is getting ridiculous!

HELP - im getting more stupid the longer this thread goes on

Im *fairly* certain now that the JZXwhatever/ISwhatever/Altezza diffs, no matter what confusing code they have, are physically smaller in both housing and crown diameter and thus are not compatible with the Supra/Soarer/Aristo.

Can i go to bed now?

Toyota part number for IS200 LSD is 41301-53010. Part number for IS300 LSD is 41301-53020.

I'm 99.9% sure the IS300 crown is an 8 incher

Also, They may now be going by a different code than they have previously. In searching I came across this which shows a new way they are decoding diffs 89 and later...

Even better, another site shows that there is no rhyme or reason to the 'a' or 'b' designation of the axle code on the newer model vehicles.

I'm out of idea's. The only thing I can think of is taking measurements of your current r&p and figuring out what WILL fit.

aristo a series crownwheel same size as SUPRA JZA80 Soarer JZZ/UZZ

If you can swap them you are pretty good

The pinion offset between a JZA 80 A series and G series is totally different , all the bearings are not interchangeble ,as is the PCD of the crownwheel bolts .
If you want the 4.5 ratio then get the closest fitting G compatible IRS diff and rebuild it with hilux gears , then make it fit the A 80 .

well, that there is a nail in the coffin

so perhaps the jzx90 diff is another orphan A series code, and does actually share G series guts? would be one of only a few 'A' series that this holds true for. and perhaps the is300 diff also?

so - what does a jzx90 diff (complete) look like?

possible to graft a jzx90 unit into the jza80 subframe?

    cheers

The A & B series in Toyota's now just means A was the 1st series they use and B is the 2nd series. Not like the old days where the letter meant a size e.g. F or G etc.

I went through the same pain trying to go the other way - I need a 3.5:1 ratio for an IS200 A series diff. Only way I can do it is to change the whole back end disc to disc for an IS300 diff which is the similar size to the Soarers. Of course they are as rare as rocking horse sh!! up this way.
