holdens in particular are known for having really bad corrosion on the hubs..all i do is get a bit of wood and either use that to bash the inside edge or use a hammer and the block of wood..with a bit of emery or something else sand the corrosion back and smear a bit of loctite anti-seize around the hub..not sure if you could do the same with locater rings but i guess it wouldn't hurt..is that a 3 piece rim? i know you can get new outers for them.

that is not too bad ... it is fixable ... as i said, there is a guy in Cannington who does the fixing and it is not expensive at all, the only thing is that they are quite slow due to staff shortage. Another good place is Allianz Rims Repair in Northbridge, a bit more expensive but fast work. Or like damo101 said you also can get the outer for them if yours is 3 piece rim.

Agree with what everyone has said re: wheel locked on the hub.

I see you don't have centre caps so it is possible that water has got in there (washing, raining) and rust has locked the wheels on the hub. You should make sure both mating surfaces are flat and clean by wire brushing or sanding before relocating the wheels. Some antiseize or lubricant wouldn't go astray either.

Another possibility (from my own experience) is if you paint the hubs, heat transfers the paint to the inside of the wheel hub forming a bond. Again, if this has happened, make sure to clean both surfaces before refitting the wheel(s).

Sounds like a real tight fit to me, though.

Good luck, and also get the wheel repair shop to check those two hairline cracks I see. You might even investigate the cost of a new outer rim as a repairer once told me that once the rim is damaged and repaired its never as strong as original.

And stay away from kerbs. They have a habit of jumping out when you least expect it.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Alliance is in Ozzypark ... and expect to pay close to $700 or expect them to say you need a whole new outer rim section purchased from BBS for close to $1500...

    goto Leo Grommer ...

corner railway parade and gibb street east cannington opposite east cannington rwy station

Leo doesnt work there anymore , but they people that now work there do exceptional work at a fraction of the price that alliance charge...

BBS dont sell lips anymore, and they wouldn't be $1500, not even all 4 rims would cost that much if they still made em

and nope, It was in Malaga, the person quoted me "$190... plus GST" so i knew he was screwing me around with his "plus GST" crap, so not going back there again.

Did the job ourselves and saved $200 :

First to take the lip off - We put a Large piece of wood on the center part of the rim where the spokes are, then put a car jack ontop of that. We got the type of metal hooks that were from some old spring tensioners and hooked them onto the lip. We tied rope around the holes on the spring tensioners and put them over the jack. We began turning on the jack so it lifted up, pulling the rope which was attached to the hooks, until the lip popped off.

After that had to take it to a mate of my dads who had a real powerful blowtorch, we put a lot of heat into it until we could bend the metal, took a lot of hammering. After we straightened it out the clear coat was black and brown, all burnt. Used sandpaper to sand off the burnt clearcoat, and the near final product :
