Got a temp sensor sitting in the Holden Nova I'm wrecking out front, if you want it I'll do it cheap.
Hi guys,
Picked up a Holden Nova/AE92 Corolla as a daily, but I've noticed that the thermo fans are not coming on.
When I unplug the connector to the temperature switch, the failsafe kicks in and the fan starts.
The car hasn't overheated yet, but the heater gets really hot sometimes inside the car.
Does anyone know what the Tridon part number is for the sensor, and its on/off temp setting?
I want to fit it at the same time as a new thermostat, so I can't pull it out right now to compare to the diagrams

Or is it normal for them not to come on in winter/cold weather?
Thanks for any help![]()

Mine takes plenty to get the thermofan to come on. I've got a full flow oil cooler setup so that helps, but my car will not get the fans on with ages at idle and the odd rev and hold, especially in this cooler weather. I wouldn't be rushing out and fixing stuff until you're sure you've got a problem; if they come on when you unplug it, and your water temp guage seems to behave normally and not get over middle of the guage, i'm not convinced you've got an issue.
Has it had a new radiator or flush recently? It might just be efficient. Tried to make them come on? Let it get up to temp then hold it at 4k for a while?I would've thought if you let it idle stationary for 10 mins they'd come on...

Cheers guys
Just found out at Supercheap that it is a Tridon TFS150, approx $50. If it is normal for them to not come on often then I'll leave it til summer.
Coolant doesn't look *too* bad, but I'm going to change it soon, along with the thermostat. Does it normally take a while for them to heat up? Maybe being a 1.6 they don't generate as much as my 1JZ cressy, and therefore take longer?
After 5 mins idle they didn't come on, it was a cold night though...temp gauge was normal.
Anyways I'm rambling, thanks for the advice guys, I'll keep an eye on it til the weather warms up![]()

only if the current thermostat is stuck open.Originally Posted by Ribfeast
probly takes 5mins at idle to get warmed up normally but the fans dont kick in till 90 something degrees and with this cold weather that could take a while.
the thermostat may be stuck open (or missing) and that would make it take a long time to warm up so that would be my first port of call.
cheers

Should be ok in winter though so i wouldn't worry about it too much![]()
