For a Gen3 3S I would say that the cams are the last thing that you should be upgrading. The performance gains from other options are far better value for money. I doubt you will see much more power at all with stock turbo setup, especially with stock management, you'll just lose a fair bit of bottom end power. I wouldn't bother with cams unless you're going to do a full on engine build, the stock cams can flow plenty of air to get you into trouble on a stock long block.

    My advice:
    • If that equal length manifold is a made in china ebay thing throw it in the bin, they're very poor quality and I haven't actually seen them with the right flange for the Gen3.
    • Get a decent turbo onto the thing, for your power goals I'd say a GT3071 or GT3076 would be the best option, you can either do this with an adaptor on the stock manifold or get a steam pipe manifold made.
    • Get a good 3 inch dump pipe and exhaust.
    • Buy a power FC as soon as you can as they are out of production and by far the best bang for the buck for a Gen3 management swap.
    • Upgrade your injectors and get a good fuel pump.
    • Get it tuned by somebody competant.

That stuff setup correctly should get you to ~220-230wkw on 18-20psi of boost. Cams might give another 15-20kw on top of that once you have reached the flow limit of the stock cams.

Adjustable gears can be a good option for moving the torque curve around though to get it to drive the way you want it to.

i ran my car in post rebuild on the stock management with the 264 and it was fine, obviously not taking full advantage of the cams but was still good. get valves prings too. When you talking extra lift and more aggressive ramp angles the stock springs might struggle a bit (might be ok but why take the risk, just spend the $250 and get HKS ones)

i made 204kw at 6000rpm atw in my 205 with power fc, cams, cam gears, 20 psi, fmic, zaust, hks twin power cdi ignition. (my engine is also rebuilt with forgies n race series bearings, 800cc injectors etc, they dont give you extra power)

I bet it would make over 200kw with the same setup minus the cams as well, and be stronger through a fair portion of hte rev range. If you're making peak power at 6000rpm that shows the cams are a waste of time, I've seen cars making peak power at 8000rpm with the 264's before.

For reference with the same kind of mods except my cams are 268's and I have 1mm oversize valves mine make 288rwkw on 21psi at 7800rpm, obviously I don't have a CT20B though

Plenty of cars have made the power the original poster is after without needing to spend the money and add the compromise of going to aftermarket cams.

mine made 240kwatw with stock gen3 cams,
just needed cam gears to get it there and made an absolute shitload of difference driven back to back.

    as josh said,
    decent manifold
GT3071r (the real one not the t28 flanged POS)
    quality exhaust and cat
    cam gears
    apexi PFC
sard regulator and its a job well done

you should see 240kw at about 1.3-1.4 bar and be sure to cap the limiter at about 7800rpm on a stock engine,
any more boost or revs will cause valve float on std springs.

    cheers

Don't call my springs dodgy!!! they were crap!!! that was an expensive lesson to learn to never ever buy engine parts from eBay ever again.

I actually left and went back to Thailand. Got a new visa in Thailand. Have a nice holiday in Thailand. And back to Australia to give you headache again haha lol

the reason it made peak power at 6k is because the stock ct20b exhaust housing is too restrictive and the compressor is inefficient and not pushing enough air up high.

the 264 are a definate power increase, but you wont get the full benifit without upgrading your turbo. The reason i did it this way is because when i rebuilt it i decided to do the lot at once and can do the turbo later.

Like i said its not the best below 2k, once you get over 2500 its pulling nicely, then once you hit 4200 you get a real lift in power.

Thanks heaps for all the insight guys. I think I will be going for just the adjstable HKS cam pulleys for now and look at getting the cams much later on. Probably the 264's.
I will keep you posted once there is more development.
    Cheers again, much appreciated
