Rain = shit.... i won't even run![]()
grizzly - smh.com.au long range forcast. 20th is in the middle of 3 "high probability of rain" days.
GT - considering I'm thinking of replacing my (worn) rear tyres with semi-slicks, I reckon I can manage a LOT of spins
On the plus side, it will be a good test of handling and grip, vs outright power, and encourage me to be a lot more careful about entry speeds, braking distances, and race lines.

wakefield was absolute rubbish when it rained on the old surface, (was like driving on wet polished concrete....)
new surface should be alot better in the wet,....
still, the wet sucks.
You have no ideaThe car will step out down the main straight in the dry on street tyres so circulating in the wet in basically pointless....except maybe to help dry out a racing a line

Aww poor Justen, itll give the rest of us that dont have over 9 thousand powers a chance at keeping with or beating the GT8
If it looks like definite rain closer to the day i might bring the celica down instead ^_^
As someone who's been driving exclusively on semi slicks for ... over 5 years, it continues to amuse me that people have this view that they're worse than full treaded tyres in the wet.Originally Posted by Draven

If you don't go overboard with tyre width there is still more than sufficient pressure under the tyre to push normal water out. Heck I have been known to drive on slicks in the wet without any problems.
Semi slicks have softer compounds than full treaded tyres and will still stick to the surface better, regardless of water. The tyre only works when the water is pushed out of the contact area - regardless of the type of tread. I can see that at 180km/h a semi slick might not push the water out in time, but then you just take it easier on the straights and you still get to practice smooth lines, smooth braking, etc..

well considering my 4a auto nugget can light up the AO48's on teh rolla [EDIT: in the rain] i would strongly disagree with you on that one.Originally Posted by Mos
a Falken RT215 isn't really what i would classify as a "proper" semi slick, once you go to AO32 or AO48 or R888's you will find out that even though they are grooved they wont disperse water overly well.
combine that with the need for an "R" compound tire to have heat in it before it will grip and your arguement becomes even less convincing.
rain = heavily grooved semi's or street tires (heavily grooved semis can heat the blocks up quickly)
damp/cold = semi's
dry = semis or slicks
the above is my personal opinion and may be taken with a grain of salt if you so choose
cheers
