I would suggest sometihng in the GT30r family for a 1jz. THe GT3540 (GT35r) is more suited to a 3lt, they can make alot of power a spool rather nicely(so i have read from bulild threads etc.)
im planning to get the Garrett GT3540 for my jzx90 slightly soup up corona.... would like you guys opinion about this snail...
would it be too laggy..?

Its been done before, but even with the .82 housing i think it would be too laggy.
I've gone with the GT3040 for my 1j, but its yet to run so not sure what the results will be.
That said, if you are planning on a 1.5j later on then maybe its the way to go.

i wouldn't have any plan to go for the 1.5j because the land transport authority here doesnt allow us for such a big percentage of increase... my corona tt132 original was a 1.8 and i managed to get aproval for my 1jz with some "offerings" to smoothened the process..
because im currently running 25psi on my T70.....would wish to get the same amount of power with much lower amount of boost..

Try a .63 rear on it? I have a 1.06 GT35R on my 2J and its awesome. 355rwkw through an auto.
must be feeling like going to the moon with ur 2jz over there mate... haha...very envy..

I would go for the .8x a/r gt3582R. Yes it will be a bit laggy but I think full boost should be achieved by 4500rpm. If you want big power you have to have lag.
what are the specs of your t70? The gt35 is only a 61mm compressor inducer but for someone reason they seem to make really good power pretty easily.
If I upgrade in the future I was going for the same turbo 2jzr31 is using which is the 1.06 a/r and .5 a/r comp. He makes 1bar by 3500rpm. I would think the 1jz should be making 1bar by 4500rpm at the latest. I will be using nitrous with it though
my t70 currently have 61mm compressor wheel trim (i mean the part that u can see with your eyes at the inlet)
the gt35 im talking about is the gt35R which had a 68mm compressor wheel... slightly larger than mine and weigh much less.... mine was 280grams and that gt35R is only 89g....
i did a century sprint just now again with 25psi of boost, octane boosted fuel , flooring all the way ... cant seems to get traction even on the 3rd with a pair of street performance tire...it was like going to one side upwards like a speed boat but with a little bit raise on one side... on lower boost this doesnt happen... i felt like my chasis is twitching.... why ah?

I don't think that gt35 is actually a gt35 if it is a 61mm comp inducer. (yes the bit you can see from the front.) However, if it is a 68mm wheel then it will be able to flow more air. If you can get the compressor a/r as well as the turbine wheel size and a/r (t3 or t4 flanges) for both turbos it would be easier to get a direct comparison.
With your current turbo when to you hit full boost in say 3rd or 4th gear from a low rpm?
it will be fine i run a GT35R with a big 1.06 rear housing (its a race car) and it still makes awsome boost at only 4500 and total of over 350rwkw
so with a .8 rear it should be perfect
DONT try a .6 rear housing !!
ive seen it tried on another car at my tuners workshop ant it just hit the compressors surge line all the time spooling up and then flattened out badly... made crap all power too!
a fool remains undescovered untill he speaks!
FWIW
I use the GT3582 aka 3540 on my 4a. Great turbo if you want grunt ! and to run high boost levels.I have the ,82 rear on it at the moment and it boosts around 5000rpm on a 1.6 so on the 1j it should be sweet.
Im gonna go to the .63 for my 4a to bring the boost on a bit sooner.
300+rwkw 4agte http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/for...wkw-4agte.html
i use a GT35R on my 3RZ 2.7Lite 4 cylinder. with the .82 rear housing. And with a redline of 6000rpm, i have 20psi from 3500rpm upwards. 14psi is even earlier at 3000rpm
This is a turbo map i did for the 2.7litre, a 2.5 litre would be slightly different (RPM lines would move slightly to the right), but you have revs on your side. This is for a 1.06 map with no correction.

For comparison this is a GT3076R on a 1jz,
Made this on 23psi of boost (I made boost come on slow on purpose),
Have seen up to 27psi of boost from it when I screwed up setting the boost controller.

I think the question from start should have been, how much horsepower do you want to make?
Take that answer and use the smallest turbo capable of achieving that power, to make it. Assuming you like responsiveness and minimal lag... Never mind opinions on a given turbo.

JZA70|R / 12.45 @ 111 mph.
my TO4R was great, its was slightly bigger than a 35/40. with a 3400 stall it kicked ass on the street, not laggy at all
