i had a 1.00 rear housing. boost started at 2600 from memory, its been a couple of years now since i sold it off.
what A/R housing you have on the back ?
What rpm was it starting to boost at?
Just curious.

Shane: I don't know why but your setup always seems to be a lot more responsive than other people's. Don't know if it was the tune, the fuel, the weight of car or whatever but as you know I had a .9 a/r turbine on my old turbo (unsure of diameter wheel) and it was laggy as hell. Not many people could get away with running a 71mm turbo on a 1j for some reason.
the TO4R was great
the GT51R with the 71mm front wheel, first gear was crap onthe street only made 7psi, second and third gear were fine though.

Convertor helps heaps though doesnt it Shane? As far as sorting out lag issues.

WOOOT!!!
Still going good![]()

of course.
it would be pretty dumb to whack on a single turbo and not get a convertor to match.

I run a GT3540 with the 1.06 rear on the 22R-E. I think it's too big for the 2.4L, but I don't have the rev range you all have with your 1J's. I'm going to try the .86, see if I can get on boost a little earlier.![]()

wait until it goes on the dyno and you have to start pulling shitloads of timing out to stop it pinging above 5k.Originally Posted by EldarO

when you run a small turbine housing on a large engine it will get an early spool but the problem is it will start to choke up at some point later in the rev range.
when it chokes up it will increase exhaust manifold pressure and reduce the amount of used exhaust gasses that can escape from the cylinder (+large amounts of heat buildup) and it will contaminate the intake charge for the next engine cycle.
the only way to then stop it from detonating will be to either reduce boost or pull a shiteload of timing out.
thats the quick way to explain it and i could explain further but alas i dont have the time.

1.06 is a good allrounder for a 3L but a .82 could also be good depending on application ie: drifting where throttle response is of main concern.
the only time id use a .63 on a gt35 would be on a 2L engine with small cams.

thats the theory anyway
hello
I've heard of great results with a .86 rear housing. very early spool, and just enough huff to get it through.
I was happy to go the free-er flowing 1.06. with 3L and vvti, lag is not a massive issue![]()
