Battery Terminal Box for Relocations

Hey guys,

Just about to embark on relocating my battery in the GT-Four and totally wishing there was such a thing as a battery terminal adapter box like the little drawing I have done here.

Has anyone seen something like this?



I have spent a good deal of time online trying to find such a thing to no avail. I do not want to chop my loom at all as it may need to be returned to stock one day and this seems like the most elegant solution by far.

Can you put the battery in the boot, run your +ive cable to the front of the car to a disribution block and bolt the existing stuff to that?

When it comes time to put back to stock, re-relocate the battery and remove your cabling.

Just remember to fuse it somewhere close the battery.

If what you are after is an insulated box with two terminals inside then yes they do exist in various sizes to cope with varying amps.

I fitted some small ones good for apparrently up to 80amps in my car recently and fitted a larger one made by Hella into another car which would more suit what you are after.

They can be had with the terminals bridged, fused or isolated. The ones I got were fused/isolated.

All mine were from a local Auto electrician outlet.

The other way to go if you really really don't want to mod the existing loom at all is to just run a remote +ve battery terminal post then all you have to do is fit the current terminal to the remote post.

yld I like the sound of what you got from the electrician, isolated = good too.

I'd put the post in a box or something, so effectively the same I guess -might make a trip down to the JR Turk (or McTurks or whatever they are) or something as soon as I can then

The other good point about having the post in the engine bay is that it gives you a handy location for jump starting instead of going through the new battery location (since you didnt mention the boot i can only assume in a far harder place to access).

Project Sleeper did something similar but i cant link any of his pics (social sites are blocked at work) and couldnt find something similar on Google.

Well, i think there could be a feature on that set up that could be utilised so that you dont have to modify your stock wiring, not for the benefit of being able to jump start in the usual way. Will post the link and hopefully try to get some more info when i get home.

If you go to turks, or even Jaycar they should have a terminal strip with a cover .

I do like the teminal post from the project sleeper link, although I would worry you might forget what it is or somebody not familar to the engine bay might get bitten.

I think i remember seeing something in JBHi Fi in their stero area that would do as well. It might have 'even' had a LED display on it showing the battery volts ;P

Does your existing loom really include the +ve and -ve battery leads?? The only thing I can think you would need a post for are the +ve accessories, not the main +ve and -ve leads.

In my (G)A65, I redid the large guage +ve lead to starter and -ve lead to earth. No loom involvement whatsoever.

fwiw: i mounted a battery isolater in the engine bay so it's like having a vertical battery post without the actual mass of the battery.

The post that you attach stuff to is a downward facing bolt - in my original set-up (i later change to a 5-fuse block away from the isolator) i used the +B connector from a camry (would be very similar to an ST162) which has three fuses an tails to supply power to the starter, alt, lights and other stuff.

YOu can quickly tell if the post on the battery isolator has come loose as you loose all power. The only down-side risk is loosing the nut from the isolator post while driving ... which is an install error not a design flaw.
