i'm sure that some on here would have a book of spec's on how to rebuild one, which by the sounds of it you guys have to do. its not too hard mate.
good luck with it
A friend of mine has RA23 and the car process's fuel more than combusting it. The carby tends to trip the fuel into the intake manifold rather than spray. Essentially we need to freshen the thing up, rebuild or exchange for a reco.
Any suggestions on getting this thing back to operating specifications?

i wouldn't waste time on the std 18rc carbie (i learnt the hard way) just get a hold of a 32/36 weber jetted to suit and will see better results in fuel economy and working secondaries (with the weber-18rc adapter plate)
cheers
Thanks for the heads up on the 32/36 webers. I've done a little searching and so it seems my mate would need to purchase a redline 18rc - 332/36 manifold adaptor, a 32/36 DGV weber from an early 80's cortina, a linkage kit and a new airfilter.
Any idea on where to find a carb? I looked on ebay but I have no idea what is reasonable to pay for one of these things.
Rob
A decent 32/36 for $50 is average.
If its rebuilt its worth over $100 for labor but don't believe anyone who tells you its rebuilt, only if its from a shop and it should look brand new.

Most of the carbs on eBay and in wreckers are DGAV. They have the horrible "wet" choke which has to be plumbed into the heater line to work. If a non-working choke is no issue, then no problem. If you want an electric choke like the original carb find a 32/36 DGEV. If you want a manual choke find a 32/36 DGV

I own Corollas, Crowns, Prados and
Various leaking British things...
Or go pull a 34ADM off a wrecked Falcon XE/XF.
They are good carbs & have an electric choke.
I picked mine up for $30 from a u-pull-it.
Takes a little bit of time to tune them, but its not difficult to do and its a VERY good learning experience.
I ran it on an 18R and then a 21R.
The auto-choke is awesome, much better response & power than the stock carb, and if tuned well still gives good fuel efficiency.
