any AE92 with an EFI motor generated the 4-pulse-per-revolution speed signal from the back of the speedometer.
I have heard rumour that some (maybe not all) AE86 speedos have the same ability - look for a point labelled "4P" on the pcb behind your gauges.
If you dont have it, then you will have the 7200rpm rev cut that I also had with my smallport engine in my old AE71.
you "could" build a circuit to generate the pulse... it's quite a basic signal really. The only concern i have is the questions surrounding what else the ecu does with that speed signal.....
...... butt scratcher?!

meh...
was hoping your would see this witzl,
i read that rumor on twincam, and i'm buggered if i can find that point on the back of my spare aussie AE86 instrament cluster (though i have only looked at the plastic PCB thing, dont really want to dismantle the cluster)
so that means i can either glue magnets to the tailshaft or run a wave generator.
i look at it like this, is telling the ECU that the cars is always travelling at 50km/h any worse than not giving it a speed signal?
The Australian cluster does indeed have a speed signal output
