unless you've seen the interior of the car it came out of, I'd doubt the 52,000 claim.
even my 2000 2j has a few more than that on it.
Hiya,
getting a compression test done on a '96 Supra 2JZ-GTE, what sort of values should I be looking for in a healthy engine? It's done around 52,000ks.
The figures I got back for compression test were:
1 2 3 4 5 6
170 155 175 160 160 175
Is the roughly 10% variance between the highest and lowest anything to be concerned about? I noted the acceptable variance mentioned on the link posted above was 14psi but that anything over 156 was ok...
Cheers, Chris

I did a comp test on my 2jzgte, and from memory it was around 190 psi, higher than i expected, i was using good quality gauge ..suspect the engine had around 100 plus k's ..
190psi is very high for a turbo engine.
(maybe this comp test was done on a warm engine, with very thick oil, WOT)
Go drifting...
I agree, thats why it suprised me a bit, Comp test should always be done warm to get an accurate figure, & of course at WOT, oil was only standard weight, i would be suprised at cranking speed if heavy engine oil would make much of a difference ... ( I am obviously talking dry test only .. )
AFAIK to complete a compression test, engine should be run in prior, to get the best reading with WOT .
Non VVTi 2JZ-GTE procedure and specs here

Anyone got specs for the VVTi 2JZ-GTE?
GSE20 IS250 - daily
UZZ30 Soarer - 1UZ-FE/R154/Adaptronic - trackday roughie
UZZ32 Soarer - Active Hydropneumatic Suspension (A-SUS) & Active Four Wheel Steering (A-4WS) - cruiser
Yeah I'm always careful when checking out a car that is supposed to have such low km on it - I've seen a couple that were clearly clocked.
This one's interior and paint-job were immaculate, suspension bushes looked really good and no noticeable wear around the shifter or seats, there weren't even any insects in the intercooler. It looks like a brand new car.

any opinions?

did you do a wet & dry test? that would provide you with more information.
pull a plug and look at colour?
#2 seems a tad low but a wet & dry test would confirm if there's issues with rings
Usually 10 % is a Maximum recomended difference across the cylinders that you want to see, yours is a bit over that, sometmes even rechecking a low cylinder is worth it to confirm, as has been mentioned you then need to do a wet test to help confirm if its rings or valves ...
And if a bit of shit fell down the plug hole after pulling the plug out that stuffs the reading, very common on plugs that are dead verticle. If you have a close look first you will see fine sandy stuff around the plug compartments.
