fast with a hint of sideways...not intentional drifting but if you are going fast and the car isnt handling in a completely neutral fashion then oversteer is gonna be quicker than understeer...Originally Posted by JustCallMeOrlando

And what rear Torsen equipped cars have you driven to this point?

Torsens aren't popular with pure race cars, especially drifters, because the super-stiff suspension setups they run mean you will be lifting a wheel pretty often - and as we all know torsens stop working when you have a wheel in the air.
This is completely irrelevant to a street car though; you should never have your suspension that stiff when you drive on our less-than-perfect public roads. In the 5 years I've had a TrueTrac in my Supra I've never had a problem with lifting a wheel and losing LSD action, but then again I'm not a wannabe drifter with one million lb/ft springs.

OT but overstiff spring rates are a thing of the past with drifters and people are finally realising that chassis stiffness is more important than whacking the heaviest spring rates you can find in the car...Originally Posted by Norbie

Note I said "wannabe drifter", all of whom use springs made of granite.

in that case id say its stiff, but not ridiculous
anyway, i think we are digressing.

the problem with torsen diffs is that they are somewhat limited in power capability (i vaguely remember reading 600-700hp?) due to the size and material of gears..
that somewhat limits their application in a racing environment.
of course doriftorz wouldn't use torsen.. the point is to have both the wheels sliding, and the most controllable way to have both of them sliding is to have a locked diff, so when you turn, one wheel always has to slide
clutch pack is crude, but effective, and be playing with ramp rates, you can get a good balance (one way clutch type that is... 2 way... we'll leave that story)
hmm... i would suggest the opposite.. the point of drifting is to induce and maintain slip... the point of an LSD... is to limit the slip... not to allow 100% slip...They work in a fashion that most people are happy with, sure they aren't THE best LSD for drifting, but lets be honest, in drifting the best LSD isn't an LSD, it is a locker. You want to limit the slip to zero (weld, spool, air locker, whatever...).
if you want slip in a controllable manner, then you need a device that reduces traction, but does it in a controllable fashion... ie spool/CIG, or a 2 way clutch type LSD![]()

Umm gees, maybe i sounded like i was contradicting myself. When i first put it in, there was no such thing as one wheel... in fact by the design of The torsen, it looks like it would be very difficult for it to 'one wheel' under power, now with skinnys on the back, and i side-step the clutch and keep the power nailed like in that vid... its pretty sweet, but if i start regulating 'fanning' the gas to control it, it straight away looses that nice two wheel feel and goes 'worn out clutch lsd spec' and bites up one wheel, basicly its changed 'weakened' heaps since i've gotten it, so in effect it has worn... and my idea is that if I keep feeding it the Herbs... its gonna get worse and or Bang!! it realy hates my firelli's too, wet or dry
The A80 has a torsen, and regularly sees over 700bhp with not much documentation of failure?Originally Posted by oldcorollas
ok, so when you reduce the power input into the LSD, it stops distributing the torque (that is not there since you are "fanning"), so then one wheels spins and has little traction, and then it can7t evenly split the torqueOriginally Posted by 22abcdre
it kind of sounds like it is working properly, and the loss of traction is driver error.
you seem to be misinterpreting "LIMITED slip differential".. that means.. not spinning the wheels.. once you spin the wheels, it is hardly limited slip
for your antics, you need a locker, not an LSD.
and btw.. you look like a fucktard in that video![]()
