Na mate no way! 18rgs are way worse for bottom end bearings than the 1gs and they arnt anywhere near as strong as 1gs! I have had one and a friend has had 3 a gave up on them!Originally Posted by tomvale13

I think the last 1G's were produced around the late 80's early 90's so they are getting oldish. I wouldnt think an 18rg would be too fresh after 20 years either.

thats it, any motor 20 years old is going to have all sorts of issues, even the crossflow 4.1 in my cortina as strong as it was snapped a oil pump shaft.

So; talking about a rebuilt 1g vs a rebuilt 18rg, for an rt40,
1g is going to be more reliable...?
We figured everything would be easier and cheaper 18rg as well as not run the risk of turbo related issues.
He was thinking 18rg with twin carbs, just a cool bubbly sounding little cruiser,
either way its gonna be a kick in the pants compared to his 2r or whatever.

I haven't broken mine yet, but I have a sneaky suspiscion it will eventually... Really need to get around to servicing it and put some thicker oil in it. At the moment I've got some 10w50 synthetic in it. Seems to like it but blows a bit of smoke on it at start up. Also hasn't been looked after much in its life.. See how it goes I guess.

I use the Royal Purple full synthetic 20w/50 Oil.
After 12 months of 18psi Boost the sump bottom end and all parts visual still look like new. Everything was clean, no ash in the oil. All looks great.

I know this is all good 1G talk, but I was looking forward to two pages of busted 1G info. Not a handful of great posts followed by some questions leading off on slight tangents.
I feel like a whinging old bastard, but I'm hoping this could stay on topic. Its an awesome idea!![]()
There is a also a 1G tech thread here for questions like that
I'm looking here because my 1G has been sitting for a while. Sounds like a full gasket kit, rings, bearings and timing belts will be a good idea before I fit it.
The tips on the front pulley and oil pickups will help too! Thanks guys!
