Default ok....how do i "manualise" an auto box??

having a few thoughts about whether to buy this fancy super duper auto controller box thingy or not.
Before i do, how do you fully manualise an auto box? Is it a simple at home type job or is it a send away ya box and have someone charge an arm and a leg to do?
I have absolutely no idea at all how this works.
Does manualising it ean i only use the shifter to select the gears and it stays in the gear selected no matter wot? I.E no kickdown etc?

It will be used mostly for dragging whilst auto so if its a pain in the ass to drive round the streets etc im not too bothered. Just wanna decide whether its worth looking at doing before i fork out for this magical auto box controller.

    Cheers

B&M ratchet shifter plus a set of relays to trigger the soleniods, bit of rooting around but can be done.

needs to be driven through the gears though and you have to switch the lockup on-off manual so its a bit of a pita.

we bought a manualising box from mv automatics and it didnt work.

you can whip one up yourself if ur good with that stuff.

you dont have to have the ratchet shifter, but its really handy.

shifts arnt to bad. but theres not really that much point in doing it if you dont have a shift kit i reckon.

yeah i will be doing the shift kit upgrade before i put the box in.
Might just buy this magical electric box (suprastick) and see if its as good as they reckon, its only about $450 ish....and supposedly controls all shift points and lockup of the converter too!

    geez 450's a bit deer.

i think you would really be better off with the ratchet shifter + relays to trigger the solenoids.

not considering the fact that you can drive it like a stocker with the suprastick, or you can program it to shift when you want it to for drag/circuit and its all controlled by the box ie no human error for shiftpoints and such.

yeah as linden says its a "better" option as it will be more reliable and more user friendly and would still allow anyone to be able to drive the car if need be (i.e. ma girl)
The fact i can set the change points to any revs i want also is an advantage.

Its gotta come from the US hence the price, but should be worth it.

JAK got any hi stalled torque converters kickin around ya wanna sell me?

    Cheers
