if you mainly do highway km's, you would benefit from putting a switch in for the lock up clutch.

that, + overdrive, we were sitting on 130 on gwh at 2700rpm on the way back from jenolan caves.

I'm sure you mean 110, which is the speed limit

maybe my 2gay is not as bad on the fuel as I thought it was.

    sideshow does them.

but any auto elec should be able to put one in, u just have to supply current to a wire goin to the g'box or sumthin. its pretty simple.

What does this switch do? Doesn't the ECU lock the converter when the revs/load are correct anyway?

No doubt there is some purpose, or people wouldn't bother ...

My 1JZ MX83 gets pretty woeful fuel consumption too. (I did calculate it, but I think I threw the figures away in disgust). I'm about to do the ECU capacitor replacement trick (which might help) but probably a check of the O2 sensor may be in order as well. (As would a lighter right foot )

    $90 of fuel @ ~145c gets me about 300k's.

its better to have it on a switch so u can use it more often than the computer does.

o/d drops bout 1.5k revs, then hit lock up clutcch and it drops another 1k.

the switch just supplies 12v to two wires which in turn locks up the converter.

Great to see a Honest thread about fuel consumption , And the Fact that most turbo 6,s are not that great on fuel around town.
My 2JZ-GTE gets 10.4 on the freeway and about 15 around town , And thats with nicely cleaned up head ports and matching manifolds.

What would be good to see is some figures from people with aftermarket ECUs.
With a good tune & respectable A/F ratios I would expect much better figures for both city & highway driving.

From my experience you dont anything for nothing , most factory ecu,s will trim as lean as they can on the highway ,Ive tried to lean off a few ecu,s but mostly end up with rough running problems.
Id guess the only gain you would have with a aftermarket ecu is around town when a factory ecu fuels up a bit rich to stop melting things ( this is turbo of course).

I noticed this rough running when i fitted my first fcd, now i tuned the fuel cut out through my boost controller and its much nicer to drive. The 1j ecu dont like the way the cheap fcds lean them out.

it depends, coz if u have an after market ecu, u are probably chasing higher power figures than the average 1j. which would then cost more to run.

in the trip back hme fro jeolan, id say ours gets about 3km/l around town and 5km/l highway driving.
