Turbo... add a CT20b (couple of hundred secondhand), make a manifold and exhaust adaptor, and use a MegaSquirt... for a bit over a grand, you will have a MUCH more potent system... and you dont have to go overboard with boost or engine changes to get major increases in performance. Twill be the best bang for buck you will ever come across.

Turbo is cheapest/easiest option, making similar power from NA is far more expensive and time consuming. Just don't forget the heavy duty clutch...

Slipping clutches is natures way of preventing young people from overpowering themselves

K&N stock replacement air filter and home made bodgy cold air intake are usually good bang for buck... and the K&N filter will probably be re-used when you decide to go for Turbo.

Aftermarket ECU or piggy back will open things up a bit.

5" monster tacho makes stock VL's to 10's, so I cant see why it wont improve a 4A

Tis true, but you know us young guns, we can't handle the power and generally wrap ourselves around a powerpole.

You could also go bigger free flowing exaust to help the mid range.

Monster tacho's also work well in said silver RA23's too.

I'll probably def go for the air filter since that's fairly cheap.
How does a monster tacho help performance?
Any info on home made cold air intake?

It doesn't, we're just havin a go at everyone that puts a tacho the size of a dinner plate on a 1.5L excel

O_man can probably help you with the ECU... megasquirt is one option, another can be MOtec etc etc (not really my field)

Oh and with the K&N air filter, do I go for one of the cone shaped ones? Or the square one which seems to be able to just replace the stock one?

depends on if pod filters are illegal in your state i spose. there are some really good k&n pod filters that flow well and filter great for less than some of the stock replacement panel filters cost. but then if your local sheffif doesnt like the pod it could turn out more expensive in the long run.

dont go anything over 2 1/4" for a exhaust system with the 4age, you'll be thankful later.

i too vote for the throw on a turbo option, but then depends also with legalities of your age and licence now days i spose.

    Alloy (lightweight) flywheel.
No real negatives to running one and the car will be noticeably faster with one fitted and it'll look & sound stock.
