You know that the SW20 has a smaller engine bay in the most important dimension for this swap than an AW11 right? the bay of the SW20 is about 50mm shorter than that of an AW11 and the only person getting towards finishing a east west 1UZ AW11 swap decided to cut out the rear chassis legs and widen it to get the engine and box in. Also the guys in the US who started on SW20 1UZ swaps stopped because of not being able to get it in width wise. I'm sure it's possible for someone with a heap of knowledge and skill to do, I'm not so sure that's you though.

I think you need to redo your schedule. If you have already been researching and what you've put into this thread is an indication of your cusrrent knowledge level I'd suggest your project finnish date would be more appropriare as your project start date.

yeh i will need to cut into the boot area to fit it all then restrenthen the engine bay to accomodate for the lost of the chassis...

if you have ever seen a sw20 engine bay or worked on one u will find its hard to get your hand in ther... most of the time when i installed my turbo i had to get me girlfriend to put her hand in places wher i couldnt reach lol..... trust me i have thought about this... i didnt think the aw11 had a bigger engine bay tho... thanks for the info....

but as i said still alot more planning and reaserch to come and any more info + input is very much welcome...

i know how big this job is and how much $$$$$$$$$ and time it takes to design something like this and i know i will not be able to take this task on alone and thats why when the time comes i will need the knowledge and experience of the people on this forum to help me

    thanks again

Cutting out the firewall between the engine bay and the boot is nothing. It's the fact that the engine bay isn't wide enough from one side of hte car to the other side between the chassis rails to accept the engine and box that is the problem.

Unfortunately when you are pioneering something like this, there is very very little knowledge and experience on this forum that can assist you.

hmm i found out something very interesting... you can mount this engine in a sw20 but you need to run it norht-south and have a ford gt40 box now the prob ther is the box will cost losts of moneys haha im still on hunt tho for a suitable wacky idea..

maybe rotor, ford lighting v8, 2 yamaha r1 engines spliced together(if that can be done) but i really wanted to stick with something toyota =(

    Yes buy a GT40 box

make sure you get the rest of the car with it

then you will have the v8 mid engined 2-door sportscar you want, for less money

Ford GT40 box = porsch or audi transaxle = $ (of the kinds that suggest that asking for the price means you can't afford it)

I saw a mid-engined race car at the Noosa Hill Climb (late last year) that had a 1UZ with a renault transaxle box.

The US guy doing the Northstar into AW11 was http://www.v8mr2.com/ - it uses a northstar V8, originally the GM auto gearbox as well but now a Fiero manual box.

He started in '03, in '06 he realised all the mods were not doing what he wanted and started a new v8 mr2.

The timeframes tell a significant story - 5 years on and it's still not done.

youll be better off finding a dak dak gearbox and mounting the engine out the back.

there are still plenty of vw parts around.

better still, 'splice' the whole beetle rear suspension into the MR2. that way you'll get the superior suspension geometry

are you going to drive this thing on the road? have you spoke to an engineer about compliancing?

That will so fit in the back of an SW20....

Seriously, you need to get out more. By that I mean get out and take a look at some of the cars your talking about.... Have a look at Justen's GT8, get an appreciation of how much fabrication was involved, how much development went into it, how much time was spent on it. Or have a look at Jamie's 4WD TA22 with 1UZ, which makes the GT8 look easy.

If you are serious, people here will help you... if you need a reality check, that will come too
