I would keep the paint for the body if i were you...
If you do want that color paint for those misc bits, go get some paint made up. That way it wont matter if the made up paint is off color a smidge.
Hey guys got a quick question for you guys in the know. I have 500ml of paint that came with the car when I bought it. I want to paint my engine bay, rocker covers, delete my front indicators and repaint the front guards, and have a fairly hefty scratch and small denting in the same spot repaired. It's 2pack I believe so it should be um whats the word, pure? as in it wouldn't have the hardener or thinners in there. Would this be enough to paint all these things? If not how much will it cover?
Cheers, Matt

I'll be repainting the whole car in a few years anyway so I'm not too fussed. If there is a big enough repair job to warrant making up extra paint then that will just give me a reason to do the respray sooner rather than later. How far do you think 500ml would get me?
If you dont overspray much, it should do what you want.
Do you guards first tho... dont want to run out while doing those.

Yeah, do external items first, then engine bay, then rocker covers etc... 500ml should be heaps, make sure you have the right hardener, as different brands work differently together.
Oh, and check your coverage, some paints have very poor coverage, while others have excellent coverage. My YZF needed half a litre of the yellow paint to get any reasonable sort of coverage, whereas it had a greater surface area of silver, but that covered it in less than a qtr of a litre. I even sprayed my XT frame and tank in the silver, and STILL have more silver left!! It's the never ending paint tin I tell yas!!

matt, 500ml will be heaps.
i dusted over my ae92 (albeit i could have done a better job) on a litre of paint (i paint acrylic i won't use 2-pac)
when i thin my paint i do a 200ml paint, 300ml thinner mix so, thats 500ml of paint loaded in my gun to do the job. believe me, it goes a LONG way - although when you're doing your first cuts on top of primer ; it can take a bit to cover, but remember, you've multiple coats out of that 500ml mix - you'll be fine.
Awesome thanks for the help guys, looks like I've gotta do a bit of reading up in this thread then, cause I wanna do all the painting myself, except I'll be paying someone to fix the scratch and small dents at the back. It is possible to spray a small section and blend it back in with the rest of the paint isnt it? Cheers, Matt
Okay guys and girls, need some advise on flexible items. Spoilers, flares plastic bumpers etc. Is there an additive that I can add to the paint to make it less susseptable to cracking due to flex. Also the lower front panel of my car has been coated with some sort of stone chip reducing stuff that also gives it a (how do I describe it) textured look. Is this some sort of soft undercoat that is then painted over or is this an additive to the paint.
Cheers
Glen
Glen, the textured stuff is "stone guard", comes in spray cans. Definately not an additive, but a base coat before colour. Plastic bits neded a plastic primer before regular primer. Fibreglass, or GRP is just fibre reinforced plastic.
Flexible paint? mm most paints form a fairly solid strata on the painted surface. If you want tough as nails paint, get some urethane from a supplier that provides paint to the trucking industry.
cheers Chuck.

Thanks Chuck,
So painting plastic is generally the same as everthing else as long as you use the right primer. I can deal with that.

Pulse, if you are using acrylic or 2-pak paints, then yes, you can blend a small section. Make sure you use the same type of paint.
GT1978, I have heard of additives which give paint more flexibility. Will have to look into it further. Far better than having chips. Most modern clears are quite tough these days though, so stone chipping is less of a worry with a 2k clear. Def worth looking at additives.
EDIT: from a quick search, there are a miriad of flexible additives available, check with your local paint supplier.
