Im not worried about a career in panel beating so i think i will just use the gun for both, i am just painting a falcon

If i ever respray a car that matters though ill look at a real gun
Sorry about the late reply, didn't realize this thread had made a comeback. Yes, I ended up using the same gun for everything due to lack of funds at the time to buy a good quality gun.

How did the job come up, would you buy a better gun if you were doing it again??

I agree. You can use spray putty "thinned out" with a 2.00mm gun but you are defeating it's purpose. Why not just use primer then? You should only need to spray one coat of putty, and then sand.

Also, remember not to confuse your terms. There are quite a few novice painters on here.

Spray Putty is not primer. Primer-Surfacer is not spray putty. They are three different products, each with thier own application.

    Spray Putty - 3.00mm tip
    Primer - 2.00mm tip
    Primer-Surfacer - 2.0mm tip

But, as they say, each to their own, and whatever works for you.

    Cheers,

    Peter

I posted some pics a few pages ago. It turned out well. I would buy another gun for ease of swapping and changing as it's a bit of a pain swapping all the time. The issues with my job were with my skill level and not the gun.

Actually. I'll probably be doing another panel soon and wont have the money for a new gun so will be going with the current one. In this instance most of it is just paractice anyway. I am not going for a concourse job. When I get to spraying my 28 I will make sure I have a few good quality guns.

Quick question for others. Has anyone used POR15 through a spray gun? What tip did you use and was it difficult to clean the gun afterwards?

I think your geting a little lockd in to wats wat there are many products that are designd to work as difernt things depending on thining ratios. i know for a fact (cuz i use it every day at work) that there is a 2k primer that is sold by Protec that can be used as a spray putty a primer and a primer-surfacer depending on how thin you make it.

    Spray Putty - 3.00mm tip
    Primer - 2.00mm tip
    Primer-Surfacer - 2.0mm tip
same times you can use a smaller gun set up with a thicker paint if say your using a presure pot set up compard to a suction feed.

Also, remember not to confuse your terms. There are quite a few novice painters on here.
this is the reason why im not a huge fan of threads like this, cuz spray painting is one of those things that there are 100 difernt ways to do the same thing and theres 1000 difrent products to do the same thing so its very hard to give correct info for every stiuation.

and it also dosnt help when people give advise when they hav only done a few night courses and think they have got its sussd.

I think every one should hav a go at sraypainting cuz its great fun but when you buy your paint ask for the info sheet that is releasd with every product and ask the person you are buying it off for all the info you need and if they are not sure, buy your paint somewhere else

haha after reading my post i sound like a bit of a wanker i just feel sorry for people that get the wrong advise from people that "think' they know wat there doing and inturn get a poor result from there spraying.

and when it comes to guns... i dont care wat people say the better the gun the better the result simple as that. a good spray painter can work with a crap gun and get a better result than a novice but if your learning and you think youd like to do more spraying in the future spend the money and get somthing nice cuz it with make all the diffrence to your work just ask {wildsupra} , and when i say spend the money, for a nice basic non HVLP gun youll probly be spending round the $400 mark and for anything good maybe the 8-$900 mark for a nice HVLP
