I somehow doubt that if the person he buys them off in the states gets someone in china to make them for them, that it would take 4 weeks to get custom rods made, which they do, but minimum order is 30-36 rods. And not every company is geared up to make the %100 best product in the world, such as a carillo, cunningham, oliver, par etc rod. That would be like comparing my manifold to a US built Virtual works manifold. I don't get someone in china to build it, yet my manifold is $1090 odd (excluding GST, export here). then take the australian $$ at .88c, and one of my manifolds would cost them $960 plus freight. A similar product from VWR, both mild steel, both tig welded and using machined collectors, and their manifolds from memory are $2200-$2500.

So tell me, at under 40% of the price of a US product, are my manifolds made in china??

Ps, not havin a crack, I'm completel havin a dig mate, don't think anything of it. Suffice to say, they are a great product, similar price to the other cheap stuff and in my experience, better quality.

Now, we have been informed that these rods are made in the U.S. Most positively!!!

Consider that ANY descent rod manufacturer from the U.S charges anywhere from $2000-$3000 for a descent set of rods.
A question i ask is, how do you afford to produce a product like this, be able to sell it to the wholesaler, and then the wholesaler sell it to the consumer for such a cheap price and still make profit? My answer: get it made in china! because they work for 20cents a day. Ultimately costing fuck all to produce!
While American workers working for a massive amount more then the Asian workforce, selling a product like this genuinely made in America for this much. Now if SPOOL really did have these things made in the U.S. SPOOL would have to be selling these things for less then what they cost to make, if not then which poor 12 year old Mexican child gets paid 20 cents a day to do it?

Talk to any real parts wholesaler or someone else that actually does this shit for a living, and im sure they would agree with me.

Now im not saying the spool rods arent good qaulity. i think they are great, and since proven it for myself in a recent build of an RB25/30.

    Enjoy

Pretty sure 6boost confirmed that the spools have thicker rod bolts??
And from a visual, and a measure, id say they are a completely different product.

I dont know much on the topic of engine internal prices as im just venturing into the aftermarket internals of my engine, but a few months ago i imported 2 sets of pauter rods and 2 sets of arias pistons, 3 headgaskets. for 3000 au, thats cheaper than 2k for 1 set of rods?, from what ive discussed with builders and people in the know pauter rods are well above run of the mill?

I could be completely wrong and shoot me down if im wrong, but id imagine the markup on brand name shit is massive just like everything in this world, i know in my trade the mark up is massive and it wouldnt be a proplem adding 100% or more of the actual cost and still competing with other quotes, which allows him to sell well below the expected price for a good set of rods and still make money?

havent actually ever used a set of pauters. Reports are good as far as i know. But as stu stated the only real thing we can do is take a visual and a measurement to revue their qaulity. Obviously much more to a rod then its measurement tolerance and appearance.

Although, if your paying $1000 per rod, it would be nice to know how good they are. Or maybe they aer just ripping you a new one

I have them made for me. They used to be done by hand and are now all made by CNC, after 2000 collectors, we can change collector angle, outlet size, pipe diameters, and any number of cylinders from 3 to 8. I have just come up with a new collector design for split pulse manifolds and keep an eye out for my website to be finished and operational after christmas(finally I hear you all say ).

Spools are good, don't stress. I have just put a set in my RB26/30 that has previously made 713rwhp in the hands of the previous owner, I've gone bigger turbo, bigger exhaust, oversize valves, more portwork and one of my manifolds, and will be looking for around 750rwhp through an auto, if thats any indication of my faith in their product.

I think we need to calm down, grow up and keep on topic.

This is a thread on Spool rods, not an episode of Dr Phil or Jerry Springer.
