that depends on the ECU in particular, but chances are you won't find out till you try.

if it is AFM, there should be no problem, but if it is MAP, there may be issues.

given that car companies generally tune rich, you might get away with it..

Off topic, but that's the first time I've seen an engine computer referred to as a "PC".

it shouldn't be too much. infact it should help promote the engine better

the fact that its being ported = its going to have smoother tunnels, less turbulance and less prone to detonation (so my tuner says)

It's only a certain percetange of HP that you could get from porting/buffing so I believe its not neccesary

GTI has had his ported 100KW small port and is only running a piggy back superchips

As said above, if you have AFM, this will be the case.

With MAP, the computer only expects X amount of air to enter the chamber.
You change anything in the air side of things (compression, porting, cams, twin TB etc), and the computer won't know you've done it.

While you have helped the motor breathe, the computer doesn't know, and only things the motor is stock.

Best bet is to run a few cycles on a dyno, test the AFR's.

If they become lean, you'll need a piggyback or full stand alone.

It also depends on just how ported it is. A port cleanup and a valve job are very different to hogging a head out to formula atlantic spec. One the computer should be able to cope with. The other will have issues...

General rule of thumb, if you are doing a single change that you expect to make a significant change to the operation of the engine then a chnage of the management to suit will be needed. If the changes aren't that significant you will usually get away with the stock management, just won't get full benefit for the work done.

In this example I'd say unless you have found a way to get massive valves in the head with the porting job you'll most likely get away with running the stock management. If you add cams or shave the head for a decent compression increase then I personally would be looking for better management.

comes down to how much the porting 'actually works' and how much you change the combustion characteristics

cumbustion process change = changed fuel and ign map
