what are the ignition timing settings like?
should have 10-15deg btdc to idle smooth.
what afr meter are you using?
cheers

Having recently got the rebuilt 3SGTE I bought of a forum member running with the Wolf V4 I already had. (Having sold the V3 that came with the motor) I'm having some issues with fueling. The motor will not idle with an air/fuel ratio above 12-1 even then it idles rather rough and is happier in the mid 11's but I still wouldn't consider it smooth!
Now i don't want to do any long term damage by running it this rich at light loads. Anyone got any ideas?
All I wanted to do was get it kinda right so I can run the motor in then get it dyno'd. I did note down the fuel and ignition maps from the V3 before selling it and am using those, however i had to add 22% to the overall injection time to get it to run. I'm running dual pulse input triggering, wasted spark, and batch fired injectors. Whats the go? Why wont it run right? Oh also in the couple of times I have run it for a short period ive noticed a fair bit of oil vapour/thin white smoke comming from the vent on the cam cover, I don't think this is right! Unless its as the rings arn't bedded in yet, or blow-by due to having to run very rich...

Yeah got 12deg btdc at idle an no AFM, just the wolf internal MAP sensor
no, AFR (as in air/fuel ratio) as most narrowband sensors wont give a true reading.
also some wideband types need to be calibrated b4 use.

Whoops sorry miss-read! Its a bosch LSM-11 Wideband, but you know its running rich by the shit it spits out the exhaust!
Oh yeah and it was setup right on my previos motor
Sure your timing is right?...the Wolf only knows the timing because you told it the ref point...if that's wrong it's all wrong. Just make sure your timing light is showing the same numbers as the Wolf

what idle rpm? is the throttle open enough?
it will want to be rich untill it gets to 55deg or so then you can start to pull fuel out.
if its not up to temp and your worried about borewashing just lean it off a bit and hold it around 2-2500rpm (should be doing this anyway if you got new cams in there)

Yeah timing light shows right, I did fiddle with ignition offset to see if i could lean it out a bit with less timing but still no go, When I picked it up jack said it was running real rich but I haven got onto him yet to ask why and if he changed anything (injectors?) since his pre-rebuild configuration
you want more timing to smooth the idle out ie 20deg.
and then you can pull fuel
Warmed-up idlel rpm is around 950-1000, I've disable all fuel and ignition modifiers (engine temp etc) for now while I troubleshoot
Yeah it was running 20 deg originally and taking it back to 12 seemed to make it a bit better
Does the 3sgte standard have duel nosel injectors? Could this be a problem the single pintel ones in there now squirting against the divider between ports? (They are 8 port yeah?)
is the cam timing on it correct (ie have you checked it yourself) as being a tooth out can cause this to happen.

And thus cause the fuel to un-atomise (condense) and cause rich running?
