Default identifying marks between 7MGE and 7MGTE cams???

I have a few cams from both turbo and NA motors, but I don't know which ones are which. Cast into the centre of the cams, there is a number. I have a couple that have a 2, one that is marked 1, and one marked 3.
Is this the way of telling which came from what?? The local parts gimp down at toyota can't provide any help other than part numbers, which don't really seem to have any correlation to these numbers.
Any body know if this is anything, or if there is a way of telling them apart??
    Thanks.

I think all 7M cams are the same. The numbers might be revisions, but as far as i know, there are no 'turbo' cams.

Hmmm, I was under the impression that there were differences between the 7M and 7M-GTE cams, and that using NA cams on a turbo motor gave you slightly more low-end performance...

Have a look here for more info:

Does the turbo intake cam have a distributor drive gear on it? I'd think that would be a bit of an identifier.

Intke cams are easy. GTE cams have 0.2mm more lift. Measure the full height of the lobe.
GTE cams should be about 38.2mm and GE cams are about 38mm.

The exhaust cams have the same lift.

The CAS and the dizzy use an identical drive gear, so no difference. Theyre on the exhaust side. AFAIK the difference is in duration

That is correct. The Exhaust side should have less duration on the Turbo cams.

You have to look at the base of the camshaft lobe where it begins to then induce lift and compare it between the two.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

So GTE intake has 0.2mm more lift, with less duration on the exhaust cam.

    + rep where applicable.

    Cheers

According to the EPC the exhaust cams are the same for both GTE and GE.
GTE Inlet cams have more lift. But I'm not sure about the inlet cam duration.

Be careful.... the earlier 7M(87-89) have both cams as different. It is only beginning in 1990 that the two share the same exh cam....
