Default Electric Boot Release xA2x Celica

    Calling all toymodders
Im wanting to install an electric boot release in my 23 celica and am stuck on how to mount it. I would like to get some pics and some installation info on all the people who have done this to their car whether it be celica or not. I will be using a solenoid from a vp commodore.

    Thanks for your help everyone,

    Rob

Well fistly the solenoid works by pulling the catch mechanism away from the lock and then allows the boots spring to lift the boot up meaning you will probably have to mount it right where the catch is meaning it will be quite visible. In mounting the solenoid you will probably have to get two nuts welded onto the boots frame so you can bolt it to it. Alternatively you could run a cable and then mount the solenoid under the parcel shelf or somewhere else more discreet.

Yeh i'd rather use a cable aswell as i want my interior to be nice and neat when complete, any ideas on how to attach the cable to the latch?

Drill a hole? Youll probably need to fasten the cable down also but ill let you decide how to do that.

I heard that some GT RA28's came with a cable boot release.

Why do you want a cable release over say an electric solenoid popper?

i do want an electric one but it wouldn't be practical to mount the solenoid directly to the latch, therefore you would need a cable aswell to remotely mount the solenoid

Have you thought about even switching the latch mechanisms around so the key bit would be at the bottom and then the catch plate that mounts on the inside of the beva panel is in the bootlid. Not only would this make it so you dont need to run a cable but then wiring would be easier and you wouldnt see the soleniod when the boot is up.

Really i dont think that pics are needed but my suggestion if you were still going to do it your original way with the cable and then the remotely mounted solenoid would be to get a bike cable or one out of another car that runs a boot cable then trim it down to the right size and mount the solenoid under the parcel shelf with the cable tied to the boot hinge.

    scrap the commodore idea.....

MS112 crown electric boot release FTW!

last time i looked at it, it would have bolted straight into my RA40 boot. no doubt its the same deal for the 23/28s

That they do. I have one in mine.
A cable runs from the latch to a lever mounted under the right side of the drivers seat.

I built a cable release one for my 23.... Hard as fuck to get your hands in that little hole....

and unless you mount it properly you will end up screwed. I ended up breaking the cable and having to drill into my boot....

    Trebor,

I have an electric boot release in my RA23. I didn't install it though. From what I can tell, it works exactly as per this discussion and has the solenoid remote via cable. Looks fairly simple to put it together.

Sorry, the first (leftmost) picture is actually upside down (so is back to front).

If you do this though, make sure you have some sort of 'escape' mechanism to open it if something goes wrong - ie: the solenoid dies! Drilling into a nicely painted boot would not be my thought of a great night in.....

    Cheers,
    -Paul.

Having the solenoid mounted off the boot lid would be even better. But I guess this would require the mechanisims to be mounted the other way around...

    Rob,

    I'm in Alexandra Hills.

If you've seen it, then you were lucky! It's only been out 3 times since I got it, one of them was to take the pictures in my ride thread which was done at Wellington Point.

Right now it's in a lot of bits.... but will be back together soon and looking better I hope!

    Cheers,
    -Paul.
