Thanks.I actually have a new contract, doesn't start for a few weeks though so I've reverted to my poor uni student days.

sorry to hear about the unemployment.... hope you get a new contract soon champ.
Really pleased to hear you got the engine running better. It seems scary touching the tuning, but really if you only fiddle the numbers a teeny bit it cant hurt much.
...... butt scratcher?!

you can eat them dry on toast if you soak them soy and chilli sauce ... sort of.
they are always cheaper in Chinese Grocery stores too
Along with Mame noodles ($2 for a bag of 10 packs)

Yeah I buy Nori Fumi Furikaki and similar rice flavorings ... makes for a cheap "meal" ... wouldn't call it delicious, but there's heaps of cheap things you can add to rice to make it feel like you're not just eating rice ...
Longest I've gone is over a week like this, supplementing only with beer and the odd multivitamin. Was a cheap month indeed! I think I put away 80% of my income (and rent is 10%)
If you have breakfast (weetbix are cheap) then a decent balanced lunch, you can eat rice for all the inbetween times and dinner ... Then there's some big savings to be had :-)

I managed to drag myself away from daytime TV long enough to re-mount the intercooler so it's not dragging on the ground and get all the inlet plumbing hooked up properly. Took it for a 10 minute drive around the suburbs, even let it creep up to 10psi boost on one occasion. It sounds hell angry and feels like it's about to go very, very fast. I wasn't going to stay into it with the dodgy tune of course but that's something to whet the appetite.
I was actually surprised how tractable it is at low RPM with the big cams, even with a shithouse tune. Idle isn't that bad either, although with a few open fittings on the plenum it is idling rather high (about 1100rpm). 272's are nearly as big as you can go with a turbo engine so I was expecting it to be a total pig - maybe not so bad though?
Anyway it's looking good for driving to Dubbo, all depends on the financial situation though.

Got the wideband installed and working, was going to start road tuning today but the alternator has fizzed itself. I just recently got it rebuilt and it's only had a few hours use since then. It's always the little things isn't it?![]()

Know anyone with a spare? I have a 1UZ spare...

I'll go searching for a spare if I need to, but first I'll be having words with the guy who "rebuilt" my alternator.

Normally when alternators are 'rebuilt' they just replace the failed part and put in a new set of brushes and bearings.
Another part in the alternator could have failed.
Or it could have just been a faulty batch of replacements parts that were used.

Stupid thing is being intermittent. I just pulled the plug off to check it has 12v on all pins, which is does, then plugged it back in and it works fine. Dunno what the go is there.![]()
Just took it for another strap after fiddling with the fuel maps a bit. Didn't do a great job, too lean at low throttle openings and too rich at WOT, but it's an improvement on what I had. I opened it up in 3rd gear and let it hit max boost (approx 16psi without a boost controller) and damn does it go!Wheelspin all over the shop, and I backed off well before 6k RPM. Redline is currently at 8k with cams and valve springs to support it. It will be "interesting" taking it that far, but I don't think I'll try it until it's had a proper tune. Must... be... patient.

What's the ETA on a proper tune again?

Stop dicking around with it until it's tuned !!![]()
Even if you can't hear it you could be detonating, or worse melting a piston running lean!!
