Like you wouldn't believe. I almost think this engine needs to be swapped into a VL Commodore.

So being the cheap (unemployed) bum that I am, I paid $40 for the most awesome air filter you've ever seen from Autobarn. It has a 4" inlet but is only about 3" long; it looks like something you'd put on top of a Holley or something. It looks quite ridiculous attached to a big turbo, but this is all I could find in my immediate area with a 4" inlet and hey, it does prevent rocks from smashing up my shiny new compressor blades.

So, with more Haltech fiddling and road tuning the engine actually runs pretty good (let's not mention cold engine conditions for now) and stays at a nice safe 10-11:1 AFR at WOT all the way to redline. Not a hint of detonation with VPower Racing fuel and the boost set at a modest 16psi. What it does have though is the ability to fry the tyres in the first three gears and scare the absolute crap out of the driver!

It will be some time before I can get this thing properly tuned, but damn is it going to be fast once I screw in another 6-7psi boost. Methinks I'll be hunting sports bikes from now on.

BTW the dose is off da hook. I think the mini-me air filter is actually helping.

Yup, once up and going it's either sports bikes or exotics the odd boonerdoor if only straight line.

I'm begging you to get it tuned...you break it you pay

Dubbo? It will be hell funny watching you try to motorkhana it

No real chance of taking this thing to Dubbo. It will be enough of a struggle paying for fuel let alone getting the cash together for the tune et al. I think it would be pretty hopeless on a motorkhana anyway, it will either be slow (off boost) or spin off the track (on boost).

I got a bargain with the turbo, found one for sale second-hand but unused and paid $1200. I was actually planning to buy one with the smaller rear but I'm glad this deal came up because the 1.06 rear is perfect for a 2JZ IMO.

    ah yep.
i was talking to a guy who was running the turbo im getting on his 2jzgte, was making about 340rwkws and had full boost by 3500rpm.

    he since upgraded.

should do the trick for my 7m anyways, as im not after crazy power like you.

Does anyone know what would cause an alternator to randomly stop working? On any given day there's a 50/50 chance the alternator will work. Note I got it rebuild recently (probably had less than 10 hours use since then), and every time it's stopped working I've checked and double-checked the alternator wiring and found no problems. Bodged rebuild?

It will be the regulator, normally the charge light comes on then goes off randomly , getting common on the JZ,s now as the ALT is on the EX side.
Non gen regs are shit , you need a genuine toyota reg either pay the $200 for a new one or get one out of another ND alt thats been mounted away from an exhaust.
7M,s are a good source of regs.

Farken, I paid $275 for a "full" rebuild which I assume included the regulator. Going to call the guy now.

That will include a new non gen reg , trust me if its non gen ditch it , even the bloody japanese non gen ones give trouble but not as much as our aussie sourced non gen ones. Its just to dam hard to on the JZ,s to be pulling it off every year.
