Thanks guys, I just picked one up and it works perfectly. Head should be off shortly, I'll post pics later.

I got the head off eventually and with the help of a friend gave it a mild port job - nothing major, just cleaned up some sharp edges on the exhaust side. It's now at Trapnell Race Engines getting rebuilt and I should have it back on Thursday. Good times!

I was in such a mad rush to get everything done in time I didn't get a chance to take any pics, but I'll be sure to take a few before the head goes back on this weekend.

My task for the rest of the week is to scrape off several years worth of oil leaks from my 2JZ block, manifolds and ancilliaries. Oh joy.

i recommend buying a whole heap of those plastic hard bristle brushes from bunnings - combine that with degreaser, followed by warm soapy water and scrubbing should do it.

Thats how i cleaned up my last 18RG - which had a LOT of oil splooge

i have only just stubled on this thread.

i would spend some time looking to do something with those oil and water lines for the turbo norbie, i can see dramas in the future with length and angle.

I'm aware the turbo drain is far from ideal and I will be making improvements, but there's a limit to what I can do given the design of the manifold. What's wrong with the coolant lines though, apart from looking ugly?

Got the cylinder head back today, unfortunately no head studs yet so I won't be able to do anything with it until next week.

I'll get pics tomorrow. It looks just like a cylinder head.

Good to see it coming along mate, keeping a close eye on this thing with the 272's and extra head work, should get some really nice results

Stupid camera crapped out on me so no pics. After 7 years it's probably time for an upgrade anyway.

Lots of progress was made yesterday - block surface was scraped clean ready for new gasket, 5 years of nasty black goo was chiselled off the block and other engine components so it actually looks clean for the first time ever, and the engine loom was completely stripped to its bare essentials ready for the Haltech install. It's amazing how much you don't need, I think about two thirds ended up in the bin!

I'm now left with two small sub-harnesses (ignition and injectors) plus a few extra plugs for the other sensors. Should be nice and neat once it's all finished and I think I saved a few kilos of weight as well! The plan is to mount the E6K and MSD under the passenger seat, so I just have to extend all the wires about a metre, make some new circuits for power/ground/fuel pumps, and hope like hell it actually works.

Question for the JZ experts: do I actually need to hook up the coolant line in the block next to the oil filter heat exchanger thingy? I'm not using the heat exchanger any more since installing the oil cooler, so if the coolant passage in the block is merely a return I can simplify things quite a bit by removing most of that coolant pipe which does a lap of the engine. Does anyone know?

probly can be removed but you would have to see which way it circulates and if it supplies water to a part of the block that the pump wont, any time i have to make changes to a cooling sys i do this coz most of the time the engineers run things the way they do for a reason.

ill see if i have time to drag a motor out this arvo and have a look for you.

    cheers

Unfortunately I don't have a stripped block to look at, so if anyone has a definitive answer I'd certainly like to hear it!

I've ordered a pair of external Walbro 255lph pumps. Can you imagine how loud this car is going to be with THREE Walbros?
