Can anyone foresee any problems mounting the MSD DIS4 ignition module in the engine bay? It will be on the inlet side, probably bolted to the firewall or inner guard.
Great info, thanks! It looks like the coolant is going the opposite direction to what I'd assumed, looks like the big ugly pipe has to stay.![]()

From their omnibus manual on ignition stuff:
http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/WireDiagrams/WDTN.PDF (13Mb PDF)MSD Ignition Controls are designed to withstand
underhood temperatures but should be mounted away
from direct engine heat sources such as headers or manifolds.
The ignition control can be mounted in most positions
except upside down. Mounting the unit in an
enclosed area such as the glovebox is not recommended.
When running, the housing of the MSD will
be hot to the touch.
I thought the question may have been asking about electrical interference etc .. or maybe the zap zap kill CDI thing? If it is the RFI issues you're asking about ... there's a lot of electronic control modules behind the dash on the inlet side, but surely both the DIS4 and the stock ECMs have some ability to operate in a noisy environment? How much high freq noise is classed as noisy though?
Don't have the EPC or the car in front of me so I can't comment on wiring that passes close to that, of which I'd be watching out for analogue signal wires for the most part ... like TPS, NE? But surely they'd have some sort of semi-adequate freq filtering at the ECU end? Just thinking out loud ...

I wasn't thinking about RFI issues, it's just that the DIS4 module is quite big and it's hard to find a spot for it inside the car that will get decent airflow and won't be in the way. Mounting it in the engine bay will make things a bit easier!
More progress was made last night, the cylinder head is in place and the ARP studs are wound in but I can't tighten them without making a SST (long 1/2" socket turned down on a lathe); clearance is pretty tight down there.
I got pics but they're on a friend's camera, I'll post them when I get them.![]()

Ahh ok, space and heat issues can be solved without a scope atleast :-)

After a few dramas finding a 1/2" socket which actually fits in the head, I now have a cylinder head attached to the block and properly torqued down. I'm dizzy with excitement!
Apparently my shiny bits from Japan landed in Brisbane last night so there's more excitement. I think I need to have a lie down.

More progress has been made, and shiny bling has been added.
Cylinder head re-installed, and timing gear back together. New front main seal, timing belt and GReddy cam gears:
Rebuilt alternator and turbo manifold fitted:
Sard top-feed fuel rail and regulator ready for installation (waiting on new injector o-rings):
After 5 years of procrastination I've finally hooked up the airconditioning. OMG!
Tonight I should have the rest of the engine back together (turbo, plenum, cooling system) and then I'm waiting on the rest of the fuel system bits to arrive (Walbro pumps, surge tank, lots of Speedflow). Then the wiring fun begins.![]()

I've been spoiled by the Century. Industrial-grade air conditioning is just so nice in a Brisbane summer, I don't think I can go back to sweating my arse off every time I'm stopped at the lights.
Oh and I'll have you know the interior* is absolutely spotless!

This is all very handy. I'm just about to head down this path.
Where did you get the T04 to T3 adaptor from? I need one badly.
norbie: i've got a fairly new condensor in the front of my MA61 if interested - was put (a bit roughly) in by Mr Cool a few years ago and only had about 1 years use.
Mr 1Gay: I'll install a cage when you pay for it.
Dave: I bought a T3 flange and got Rz to hack and weld the manifold. This is the better approach IMO if using an eBay manifold as it gives you an opportunity to clean up the collector.
Chuck: thanks but I have 3 condensors at the moment, hopefully at least one of them is good.![]()

Finally got the fuel rail together with new seals etc, looks pretty bling!
I cleaned up the harmonic balancer ready for re-installation and realised it's more munted than I thought. The keyway is slightly embiggened, not by much but enough to be a worry. Worse than that though, I bought a new key and it's a loose fit in the crank which suggests it's a bit flogged out too.
Has anyone dealt with this problem before? It's no big deal getting a new balancer (probably go an aftermarket one) but what can I do about the crank?
