i do class 10L/100k as sniff of an oily rag yeah..
i've owned about 5 3k's, 4k's and a 5k none of them would go over 10l/100 so i was pretty happy with that
when my ke55 still had the gze in it, i still think that was great on fuel (although half the time it was off the road with smashed diffs haha)
i guess in my oppinions on fuel usage are a bit different to yours. i class a 465vac sec as heavy on fuel but i dunno i get enjoyment out of it but your right its not practical to drive every day.
however, back on subject, if you're handy with a welder you'll definately cut down your costs ay, but there will still be a few things that will add up.
if you can manage to get a bellhousing adaptor made up cheaply & then manage to mount the motor in the right position so that you dont have to get your tailshaft shortened that'll save a bunch. considering you can do most of the work yourself its definately feasible. anywho i'll keep an eye on the project & it will be interesting to hear your oppinions when its done.
good luck champ
FWIW in a car club economy run, by driving a KE20 with a 3K really carefully I got 55mpg. That's something like 5.1 l/100km.Originally Posted by caibs

Maybe, but you can then sell your T50 and driveshaft and just use the K series stuff. All you need is slightly modded sump and engine mounts so a very quick and basically free conversion if you can do the work yourself. Carby version would have you mobile in probably a weekend.Originally Posted by japlish

a 7k would have likely been my second choice anyway so we'll see how it goes, it all depends on price i guess![]()

what about a 7k-e ? i think that's what it was. efi 1.8 kmotor from a liteace. or what about using a camira delco to efi the 3k ? wouldn't be too hard. ihave seen 2L camiras give 35-odd mpg between head gasket replacements.
so much stuff. so little time.
had a look at one yesterday,
the starter motor is on the passenger side which is good.
i can shift the alternator to the drivers side in place of the power-steering pump which means i can then chop/reverse (or whatever) the inlet to face the front.
things are looking a little better![]()

my 4K in my KE70 regularly gets 8.5L/100k, has got as low as 7.5~L and thats it being flogged everywhere so I can't see why a healthy 4K wouldn't return lower?
i may have to re-do my first Q. the missus doesn't want a totally gutless car, lol.

i read somewhere that theres a TRD supercharger kit for this motor... could be the way to go, you going to have to make a new intake anyway, might as well put a supercharger that you can turn on and off in as well.
keep the fuel econ. and when powers needed turn it on to zip up the mt. range.![]()
i don't need anymore convincing! bad monkey!!.......lol.Originally Posted by xcedricx

radness!
theres a best motoring episode where a particular tuning garage supercharged a 1nz-fe in a vitz (echo) and all the reviewers who drove it said it was pretty good.
unfortunately, the clip of it doesn't appear to be on youtube... oh well
supercharger FTW!
I'm very interested to see how this goes.
