I've seen my old boss lift one of these up without any assistance! :O
Light, cheapish, coilpacks, vvt, all the makings of a decent engine.
Strong enough to handle a bit of boost, trd do the bolt on turbo kit, and blitz did a sc kit.

Would make a awesome daily, but so would same motor in original car.....

I say leave the k motor in it and just drive faster

Specs for the old k, 5.6 and 7.6 give it 6.6 average
    http://www.drive.com.au/buy/market_v...ear=1983&body=

Sure it has 31 less kw.

I'm only knocking it so you can prove us all wrong

DO IT! you know you want to

edit: a jap computer may not have key linked immobiliser, in either case you want to SEE and HEAR it running before you drop the dollars.
And put the tunnel dash in too ( for those who haven't been in a echo, the center mounted dash looks like the numbers are floating looking through a hole to the gearbox, trippy)

The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new

the original ke70 gearboxes (k40/k50) are a one peice. No separate bellhousing, so adapting the 1nzfe to that might not work. might be better looking at a t50 and converting to hydro clutch.

I thought about maybe doing something like this to a ke10 with the 2nz (1.3) but as you can see i put it in the too hard basket.
Will keep an eye on this one....

ok following is just my oppinion so dont take it into offence.

its a stupid idea to be justified by economy and not too worried about power, because k motors run on the sniff of an oily rag and... they're already in ke70's

you're looking at spending quite a bit of time and money on something thats not going to offer you much else to what you've already got. if its just for the sake of being different, when was the last time you actually saw a ke70 with a 4age in it (and not on the internet). plus putting in a 4age would be much simpler, they dont use sfa fuel anyway and if your reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly tightfisted about fuel costs you can put it on gas and save yourself cash. they offer big government rebates now anyway.

    think about it logically though:
    motor ~$1200
    mounts ~$200
    gearbox selection and fitment ~$200-500
aftermarket ecu if you cant get the stocker one to run it ~$1600
    hoses and radiator ~$50
    tailshaft~$200
& other unforseen problems which WILL occur (engine crane etc) ~$400

im not saying it cant be done, but i'm pretty sure theres a reason why it hasnt been done.

    anywho
    as i said
im not havin a go at you, just offering my 2 cents ok?

lol, that's fine mate, everyone has there own idea's thats cool.
    BUT here's a few things:
    1. 4k's running on the smell of an oily rag? is 10L/100k's an oily rag?lol i think not.
    2. 4age are about the same (10L/100k's) and yes i know of at least 6 ke70's round my area with 4ag's, i used to have a '70 with a 4agze and it used more fuel than my v8 crown!
3.mounts - free (i have welder and steel)
gearbox - i have a t50 and tailshaft to go with it already so theres no cost there.(besides the bellhousing thing.
ecu - lets hope it works hey?lol.
    tailshaft - got it.

    and i have a engine crane....and patience

Got a 2NZ in bits at home and they look like a pretty good thing. We were looking at converting one into a race engine for the Sports 1300, and may yet do that but if it goes ahead it'd be a 940cc turbo engine, for the 1600 class.
The head is really good though the bottom end isn't too strong. But this isn't important for a stock road engine. It'd be a sweet little engine in a KE70.

A half-reasonable 4K should get up near 40mpg no probs. I built one in the 80's that did that, and went pretty well. The last 4AGE I built got 42mpg on the highway and around 28mpg (10l/100km) around town, but was a lot more powerful than a stock one.

    are you sure that's a 1NZ? Looks like a 1ZZ-FE to me.

never mind... I'm wrong, oil filler is on the other side... I was just confused by the bolts on the cover.

I gotta agree with caibs, just not worth it for the return. If you want something different drop in a 7K.
