RA35, the setup as I bought the car with a 3T was the stock coil, no ballast resistor, Bosch BIM024 ignitor, & the 3T dizzy. This worked fine and that motor went alright until valve bounce at 6500rpm. Then that motor spat the dummy, so I put a 2nd hand 2TG in. I converted the 2TG from points ignition using parts out of the 3T dizzy into the 2TG dizzy & installed the GT40T coil. This motor had cracked rings & pistons & constantly needed oil & new spark plugs, but seemed to free-rev to 7krpm easily. Since rebuilding the motor to 3TG I've had the issue it won't rev above 5500rpm. First thing was the jets were too big for it (148 mains) & it would foul up the plugs under high load, so I never got to rev it out. Then I recently put some 130 main jets in & it screams in the midrange compared to the 148 jets, but just spits soot out after 5500rpm. From that I'm gathering it has fuel, but it's not getting spark.

Little update too, ordered a generic replacement BIM024 ignitor from Pentastar Parts & it seems to be DOA. Wiring it up exactly the same as the old Bosch ignitor gives no spark.. soo I'll get a replacement out of them & see if that fixes my issue.

Car died on Sunday, got the replacement module Monday & a new GT40 coil, all works well and I no longer have the misfire in the top end but something weird has happened - at <1500rpm I have ignition cut out (tacho dies as well) every few seconds and the carbs nearly catch on fire! I've temporarily fixed it by increasing the idle speed, but I have no idea what might be causing the ignition cut out. Anyone else had this issue before? If I find out what it is I'll update here incase anyone else has the same issue.

    Cheers, Jess

    How'd you go Jess?

My initial thought is to check the clearances of the reluctor teeth in the dizzy.

What is the correct clearance? I didn't know and set it to 0.20mm with feeler gauges.

Not sure on the 3tg one, but the 5M-GE/6M-GE manual says the air gap should be 0.2-0.4mm.

    So that is probably ok.

Do you know someone with an oscilliscope? To check the output of the reluctor.

Also make sure you havent got the two reluctor wires around the wrong way on the module. (Try swapping them around and see how it runs)
