Apparently early Silvertops had the switching dependant on engine speed (4400rpm-ish, where the two power curves would meet), while later silvertops had a switching setup like the blacktops, which was dependant on throttle position and temperature (ie, so you don't rev the tits off a cold engine, and if you are flooring it you get the nicer power curve instanly rather than half way through the rev range).
Maybe early silvertops should be refered to as VVT-D (Dumb).
And Julian's silvertop is a later model.

Yep this is correct, I had my LT10s set exactly like this, it needs both RPM and Vac to be met before it turns it on. Unfortunately you can't tell it to turn off after x RPM, but if the vac goes high (ie you come off the throttle) it will turn off the VVT.

This is the way to set a 20v BT VVT-i

    800rpm – 2000rpm VVT-i off
    2000rpm – 6000rpm VVT-I on
    6000rpm – 9000rpm VVT-I off

I have tried this and it works, my BT used to pull hard from 2000 to 8000. I know it has been tested by others on a dyno and they report a strong flat torque curve. Orginally I had set the vvt to come on at 4400 and off at 7400 like a ST but the power was not strong all the way through.

I was using a megasquirt and wrote some code to work with the TPS as Toyota did for the 20V from the factory. Search the web to find the correct TPS curve, but sounds like your ecu might not do that.

    Hope this helps

FWIW 20v's don't have VVT-i, only regular VVT.

well would it be feasable to maybe reverse the output on the microtech? so instead of the vvt being off at idle and then on at 3000 all the way to redline like i have. have vvt switch on when the engine starts ( which the microtech would be thinking is off.) and then switch off at 6000 (which the microtech would be thinking is on.) that would continue to redline.

    maybe something like this

i hope you guys can understand that.

it just wouldnt have the 800 to 2000rpm off setting. but really how often do you need much power below 2000 rpm.
