    Default removing 1jz head

It appears i have managed to crack the cylinder head on my 1jzgte so now the head needs to come of for repairs.
What is the easiest way to get the head of? strip manifolds on car then remove head or remove head and manifolds all in one go?

Remove the exhaust manifold and turbos off as one unit (quite fiddly and pain in the ass) and take it out of the engine bay.

Disconnect the inlet manifold from the head, however leave it sitting in the engine bay. The head should then come off relatively easy.

my experience (from 7M) is to unbolt the manifolds from the head while on the car (on the intake side, leave the runners there, but take the actual manifold off)

take the tension off the timing belt, slip it off the cam gears, and undo the 12 (i think?) head bolts and left the whole lot off.

obviously you've got fuel lines, heater lines, etc. etc. to deal with, but thats common sense, unplugging the loom is also a bit of a pain, but nothing time doesnt solve.

i'm assuming by leaving the inlet manifold in place reasoning is that u dont need to d/c fuel lines, coolant lines and anythin else that bolts there

Pulling off the turbos is an absolute PITA, and even if the intake side is a million times easier, I still wouldn't be looking forward to doing it. If it was me, I'd just pull the whole motor out & chuck in a new one & swap over the loom. Then you can strip the old one while it's out of the car & have your choice of spares & sell whatever you don't need.

Surely cost & effort required would be close?

i know i couldnt do that round my joint as i dont have the space, alot neater to leave everything in the engine bay where ya can.

not saying its the right, or easiest thing to do, just giving you an idea as to how it might not always be reasonable.

i've been given a 1jz long motor that just needs the sump put on. So looks like i'll either try sell car with spare motor or just get of my lazy arse and swap motors over.

few fuel lines, take the clutch master off the box, few cooler pipes, exhaust, few vac lines, radiator needs to come out along with rad and heater hoses.

unplug every wire holding motor in.

    engine mounts and gearbox mounts.

thats about it really. takes about 2 hours to get motor out.
