usually the limp mode on the import SW20s would be easily reset once the car has been turned off. I once had a crappy turbo smart bleed valve so it would work good to 10psi when it did, but sometimes overshot to 14 and would cause it to limp and if it did. I'd just turn the car off at the lights and it will correct itself again till it overboosted..

you should revisit your lines leading to the turbo charger -

take alook at that and it should give you an indication on how it should be routed

some times with a really free flowing exhaust you can end up having probs like this (look at an xr6t) ther seems to be a point where the wastgates just cant get rid of enough gasses and your boost will start to climb no matter what you do. if your flap opens to full extension without jambing then i would look at removing the turbo and diegrindig the wastegate holes.
make sure when you do it leave enough meat there for the flap to seal on 2mm is enough.
give that a go if you have exhausted the other solutions and still cant fix it.

put a backpressure gauge in the dump pipe and if you have less than 4psi i would almost put money on this being the prob.

wow i didnt know it was like that with the 185s justen...with my 165 all i had to do was kill the engine then start it again...most of the time this consisted of kicking in the clutch..turning the ignition off and quickly back on and it was fine....provided i flicked my boost switch down before gettting stuck into it again lol.....looks like im in for some troubles with the 185 if i try to run the stock ecu with my new turbo

Surely a no pressure advice from wastegate to ECU is better, can they wire in a non Zener diode? Justin

not sure of the code but would that then goto previous ask for pressure command?

its in a '91 SW20. I'll have a look at cleaning out the waste gate and check the actuator etc, but I need a quieter exhaust anyway, 3inch strait thru is too much for me. I have no off boost power and the cars a freakin' daily.

PS thanks for the twos r' us thing, simple but a good read.

Not with a stock CT26 though mate. The twin port wastegate is bigger in cross section than some external gates and flows more than enough to control any boost level the stock compressor can flow. If you are boost spiking with a CT26 you MUST have a prob.

Can happen with other factory turbos though for sure.

Yup the 185 (and i assume SW20) MAP sensor will take the zener diode mod no probs...best to find the boost spike problem 1st though as it may get worse.
