agreed. it might not be a 6cyl head, but my 3S-GTE ran perfectly after the slight crack in the head was welded up. if it were a more common and readily-accessible head, I'd say just grab another one and fit it up, be done with it, but gen3 3S-GTE heads are a little harder to come by in good condition.Originally Posted by MWP

BTW vl's have a bleed valve on ths inlet manifold to get the air out of the system.
Your probaby better off getting s vpmplete vl motor

I agree with Leeroy, those engines should be real cheap by now. Try and get one out of a skyline if you can so you dont get one thats already cracked.
chem-weld. Or buy another RB30, they can't be that expensive anymore, can they?

that's very flattering but no thanks.Originally Posted by H1TMAN
n/a RB30's can be picked up for around 200-ish second hand, and a rebuilt long motor can be bought for around 700. so it's not a massively expensive thing to fix. even just a second hand head can be picked up for 100-200. try calaisturbo.com.au for cheap parts if wreckers aren't being friendly. if you find a particularly bogan wrecker, you can ask for a skyline head and they won't charge you as much, lol. seriously!
that said, like someone said earlier in the thread, VL's are quite common for this, (i've owned 2 VL's, lol) from the radiator being mounted below the highest point in the head and not being bled properly by BOGANS.. so as soon as the coolant level drops a little either by overflow or whatever, they overheat easily. the heads literally split open down the middle under the cam. i wouldn't bother welding it, since you're are gonna have never ending problems snapping cams coz the head WILL warp. they are never the same again after welding.
if you do fix it, there's a bleed bolt in the top of the manifold at the front. above the pcv. crack it and let it bleed with the car pointing uphill, lol. it'll never give you problems again.
any other probs you have lemme know, i know these turds fairly inside out. the motor is the only saving grace for this car funnily enough.

a mate of mine used quick steel on a camry head and it never faulted again and he's sold the car now. how much does the car mean to you? the soulitons are endless.
