I can get the coils for about $730 for the set. I have a mate at CHT and thats well under trade price.

I dont like the idea of external. WHy cheap out when you have gone to the trouble of a whole conversion or mods.

Plus, then you add in more wear and tear parts, like ignition leads. Which are prone to playing up in a shorter space than coilpacks which prove that they can last for up to16 years.

I dunno, its the way i see it. Why change a good system. Coil on plug, doesnt get any better.

How do you get a set of the factory coils to last 16 years? (apart from leaving the car in the garage )

I would agree with DT if you were stock ecu but as you have a microtech I would slap some bosch ones in there. One big positive with this way is you can take plugs out in a few seconds instead of minutes which is a good thing at the track. That would be a big positive for me.

Only issue is mounting brackets and running leads. No it doesn't look as neat as COP but if it makes more power and is cheaper I would be doing it. (infact I would have already if PVC glue stuff wasn't free for me )

Chris i'm liking the idea of being able to remove the plugs easily, its been frustrating the last few weeks trialling sparkplugs and trying to diagnose the ignition miss, would be so much easier without coil on plug. I can still make a neat looking setup with the coils on the firewall & leads entering under the original cover at the back.

Glue and shrink wrap did these just fine, hopefully they'll last at least a short while:

I just bought some of this "Liquid Electrical Tape" stuff and put it on the coilpacks. It seems a lot more robust than the PVC glue, which tends to flake off or peel away from the coilpack over time slightly (probably because of the heat). It is around $20 from Jaycar for a can of it.

Apparently glass insulation tape over the coilpacks is the way to go (after doing this), but I haven't been able to track any of that down yet.

Excellent idea above with the heatshrink, I'll probably give that a go too, assuming the rubber boots still fit over the heatshrink.

    No more misfires for me

    Here's my solution:

Please ignore the mis-matched leads... I need to order a custom set. Any recommendations for a good lead suitable to use with aftermarket ECU (ie: good suppression for no interference)?? I was thinking TopGun pro racing series 10mm leads.

The good news is no more ignition miss and no more brittle plugs & wires to the coils under the cover.

i dont like the look of the coils being extrenally mounted, it takes away from the stock look.

and thats saying something, as that single turbo conversion looks factory!!!
