What dwell time are you running?

And don't put 6's in it as they are too hot for that setup, id go 7's if not 8's.

.6 gap won't be nice when its off boost, try .8 to start with and adjust dwell time from there.

    cheers

Linden, what's your take on suitable dwell time for individual Bosch HEC-15 coils with Microtech, is there a limit to what can be run, or potential to damage the coils/ignition drivers? I've never experimented with mine, still set to whatever the manufacturer programmed for a "stock" 1JZ ignition system.

i havnt set it yet i guess turner will do that unless its easy enough to do myself????.

so i should get a set of bkr7e or bkr8e's??? what the difference between bkr7e-11 or bkr7e-p ???? does the p stand for platinum??? and does the 11 stand for 1.1mm gap???

what do you mean Bosch coils are crackers? they crack often? what PULP means?
im using the Z too. but on a 1jz ran on stand 1.1 gap before. but experience spark blown out at 27psi.... keep lowering down the gap to 0.8 then only i can go slightly above 2 bar on scramble.

btw im running on denso IK24 iridium

Phil, it depends on a few things.

Plug choice + gap, RPM, boost etc

generally its set anywhere from 2.4-3ms depending on the ecu/igniter type.

certain ecu's (good ones) will allow you to adjust dwell dependant on revs, so you can add more dwell at the point of peak torque to counter misfires but then decrease the dwell as the revs rise to allow them more of a cool down period between cycles (117/second @7000rpm on a waste spark setup)

Ill put you onto a good tuner when your in sydney next and he can talk your ear off about all aspects of tuning, he reminds me of "donkey" and i feel like shrek.

1jzmx83, pretty much answered your own questions, if its a road car id go BKR7E's, and if its goin to a circuit/drift day id probly chuck in a set of BKR8E's if your planning on keeping it at WOT for extended periods with high boost. both sets would need to be gapped at roughly .8mm.

not sure on who your tuner is so i don't know wether they check everything first or just tune what you gave them and leave you to sort out the problems later.

    Cheers

So Linden, can I read into this that the only significant downside of running longer dwell time (within reason) is overheating of the coils? Or am I over-simplifying it somewhat?

oversimplifying it abit but id have to write an essay to explain it in more detail.

Come to the big smoke and we can talk about it over a coffee or 10.

time to dig this one up
in the prosses of tuning my 1J going to put some new plugs in BKR7E's in coppers gaped to .7
I am trying to get the boost to 22-23psi can run 19 without blow out 20 starts to miss
I need to heat shrink my coils to will do this in the next few days
what I want to know is if any one has some info on will new coils and a HKS DLI give me a good spark at a larger gap at 22-23psi ?
also at this boost should I be looking at BKR8 ?

You are better off getting some brand new coils . Combined with a DLI you can run a gap up to 0.9 without an issue running 22+psi .

Ultimately New coils + DLI = Spark to run 30psi
