actually there a total of 12 screws and a plastic plug holding back the ecu. i know co si just did it haha.

ok well on mine ive tested all teh coils, replaced all spark plugs (needed to be done anyways), tried a new ignitor opened the ecu up and didnt look like anything was leaking out the capasitors. gettin ecu off a mate to check if its the ecu . if it is it will be time for upgrade.

mine basically cranks over gets ignition then bam straight away it dies. nothing like how danners is. what about the rest?

Whiplash, you sent me a right hand indicator instead of a left hand!! We bodgied it up for the RWC anyway, it's just back to front lol.

Now that the fkn BHG is fixed on my gfs MA70 (I FKN HOPE ANYWAY) i can start on my cressy again. Going to check loose wires and test the CAS and pull each coil out and look for spark, then going to test the ECU that rich kindly leant me. Then finally i'm going to order an adaptronic with 6x new ignitors. Hope i can get all this shit wired up and tuned in time. Hanging for a drift after missing the last one.

    Thanks guys

The last 3 JZX81 ECU's I've looked at have had leaky Nichicon capacitors on both boards, usually corroding the tracks on the PCB around the base of the caps.

Probably a good idea to proactively replace the capacitors before they leak and damage the tracks. The ones you will need are:

    33uf, 35V
    15uf, 35V
    47uf, 63V
    220uf, 10V
    100uf, 10V

If anyone finds a supplier for 15µF capacitors please let me know, it is the only one on the list I can't get my hands on (if I get desperate I'll use a 4.7 and a 10 in parallel).

Got richx's ecu today in the mail...nice work aus post!!
Banged it in, turned the key and bam...1jz goodness. Ran like shit but i suppose thats because the pinouts are different.
Paid for my adaptronic today so now i just need to chase a base map, anyone?

Big thankyou for everyone who contributed. It would have been much easier if i was able to actually see a problem but oh well...its in the ecu 'somewhere'
I'll get the ecu back to you asap Rich.

    Cheers,
    Troy

Cheers Troy at least you know what it was and you didn't have to spend big wads of cash to find out it was the ecu. I put my address on the back of the parcel I think.

just repaired another 1J ecu with this "fires but dies instantly" problem this morning, this ECU also flagged a code 14.

I replaced all the nichicon caps on the ECU and repaired some corroded tracks on the PCB. The caps that had leaked worst were the 100uf 10V and 33uf 35V, closely followed by the 15uf 35V. Tracks required repair around the 15uf 35V.

I was also not able to source new 15uf 35V caps easily, so used one from an old MX83 7MGE ECU which had a good non-nichicon cap intact on the main PCB.
