My car was doing exactly the same thing... code 14, and just intermittantly turning itself off. I had all of the same suggestions from the guys here regarding ignitor, map sensor, ECU etc

It turned out to be wiring underneath the dash had come loose and was grounding itself, switching the car off!

thanks for the offer mate, but i dont really want to spend $250 on a stock ecu and keep all my piggybacked crap under the dash (SCC, BCC etc) when i could spend a shitload more to just clean up my wiring lol...did that make sense? Oh and im sure there is a performance gain to be made there. I'd just like to put the problem down to a certain component and then i can move on.

keep in mind that JZA / JZX ECU's differ slightly in wiring... you will need to change some of the pinouts on your chaser loom to suit the JZA70 ECU... eldar has a copy of the pinouts if you need help with them

I spoke to Troy tonight and I'm sending him my ecu to try but I still really think that its the Crank Angle Sensor, can anyone tell him how to check if it's faulty as I don't know but the symptoms are very similar to my brother's car when his CAS died.

i have this same problem at the moment. can start the car, fiers up then dies. if i give her few revs to get her going shes fine and idles fine. so then take out for a drive then bam dies again. did it first when going round corner lost power steering freaked me out. didnt even know it turned itself off. so is a clean cutoff.

if someone knows how to fix please tell us haha.

that dude was having trouble with a nissan not starting and was advised to take the cas off and turn by
hand then measure voltage from doing so

but you say it works fine for a while then dies *shrug*

ive heard of 4agze cas's getting hot thus causing them to fail till they cool, could this be similar ?

nissans have big problems with there cas so theres no doubt it would be cas in there case but toyotas have their own unique type of managment to the nissans. i own both its they have their own pros and cons.

ive never heard of problems with cas on j series engines before. mainly ignitor, ecu and coil problems really. im gonna try suss mine out tomorrow ill let yas know how i go

As i said previously, mine was a wire underneath the dash. As soon as i'd bodgied it with some electrical tape it was fine.

yer mine wont start at all now. suspecting an ecu problem. hoping someone can helpout soon. gonna ripp ecu out see if there is anything wrong there. i dont think its a dodgy wire under dash aat all. been on road fine ever since and nothing was ever touched under dash. got it started today it it was missfireing so there is deff something wrong with the ignition area. swapped teh ignitor with a spare i had and no go. so suspect its ecu now. man i hate taking that thing out. did diagnostics test and came with code 14 also

err theres like 4 screws holding it in up under the glovebox and nothing else?!

err mr magic how you get it out without taking the glovebox ect out? just pain in the ass taking it out cos i dont it so many times.

but theres only like 4 - 6 screws holding that in as well right? two at each hinge plus the plastic shroud...
