Leaking capacitors are often the cause of ECU failure, sometimes needs a keen eye to spot it.
Can you rev it up once its started, and if so what happens, and how does it die? Clean, stutter, revs drop till stall etc?
Thanks for your input bigwad...just went out and tried that, not the problem either it seems
Also i opened up my ecu, looks the same as the day it was made, what section of the PCBs usually causes the hastles?

If you're very careful you can get the revs up a very small amount, its basically a dead cut though. As if the fuel and ignition is just shut off simultaneously.
Should i try another ignitor? Or should i just buy an adaptronic?

Okay...got my mate to come round with his soarer, and tried his ignitor after disconnecting the battery for a few mins, no good![]()

if its dying cleanly, id be looking at spark.
if its coughing and sputtering, its most likely fuel.
MAP problems will let you run the car while its free revving, but it will die at any sign of boost. will also run extremely rich.
id try a different ECU.

I agree with Eldar it has to be spark or electrical. Have you checked your CAS?
Rich
Excuse my ignorance, but what is my CAS and how do i check it? lol
I bought a 1jz so i wouldnt have to worry about things breakinglol
Thanks guys,

Checked ignition fuse?? sounds basic but sometimes we foret these things.
*thread hijack sorry!*
if it turns out you need another ECU, i have a spare JZX81 one.. $250

CAS = Crank Angle Sensor. It's a long shot but when they shit themselves all sorts of things can happen so it's worth checking.
Rich
This sounds like what was happening to Stitt's car.
The problem was bad earths on the engine. Though I think his was an ignition problem, rather than fuel.
Couldn't hurt to check though.
I havent had a chance to check any further, been fixing fkn bhg on gfs MA70
How would i go about testing the CAS?
About to call the adaptronic guy to see what deal he can swing me...once ive hooked a new ecu up, it should be able to point me in the direction of the problem if one still exists i hope lol

I would try switching ECU's first, if you havent already.
If you put an adaptronic in and its still stuffed, well then its cost you $$$ to find out its not the ECU.
Go to toyota and plug into the diagnostics port if possible? I dont know if this will help, but if they can plug in they might be able to scope whats going on.
Mine died cleanly, and it was the fuel pump ECU (1J JZZ30 Soarer)
dying cleanly is an indication of spark being the problem, not the problem itself.
nearly all problems on car have multiple things that could be at fault.
best thing to do is think back to the time it did it, and think about anything you couldve done to cause it, or environment etc. etc.
for example, it rains and you cant start your car the next morning, obviously the rain is most probably at fault

Noone around here with a JZA/JZX ecu..theres only about 3 1jzs i know of in my area and one of them is in a 200mph belly tank salt lake racer!!! The other is a JZZ30 (thats whos ignitor i tried)
Going to cost me about $1300 for adaptronic, loom and 6x new ignitors. I'll find out how to test operation of the CAS (anyone??) and then buy the adaptronic if the cas is good.
Eldar, i wish i could put it down to something i did, but all i did was drive the car into my carport, load up 10x tyres and wheels, tools, jack etc then goto sleep.
Woke up next day, car dies after i start it, so i start it again, back out driveway and about 1km down the road it dies. The only possible cause ive just thought about is the exposed fuel sender/pump wires, ie. no conduit over them, were crushed when i was loading the car? I'm kinda dismissing this as it seems to have fuel and it already threw and ignition code.
Thanks again all.
