    Default st162 motor troubles?

got an 86 celica that seems to be leaking water but only when driven.. water stays in the radiator when not driven, but when driven and especially on hotter days it leaks water and needs fairly regualr topping up...

was wondering if this sounds like a common problem or not... kinda hoping it's not a cracked head...

is there something that is expanding when the car is hot to leak the water?

    any help would be great?

also, if needed to... are there any cheap 3s engines for sale even 3sgte assuming the engine swap is easy?

    hey.
It sounds like maybe you have a head gasket problem. water maybe be going through the engine and out the exhaust.

How does the engine run when you are driving? rough idle? running hot? all these are BHG signs......

Another thing would be to do a visual inspectin of hoses and hose clamps and water pump. check with the engine running, if there is a hole in a hose then you should be able to see it coming out. It will also drop water onto your driveway.

As for the engine, check the for sale section. Alternativly toymods has some pretty good sponsors with engines and half cuts that should suit your needs!

hmmmm. id be more inclined to think thats its a split hose or hole in radiator then, usually you would notice some running rough or a bit of smoke with a BHG issue.

If you cant suss it then youll have to get a mechanic to do a pressure test on the cooling system, that should show up a leak!

As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are

Have a simular situation with a spare 3sge i chucked in a friends celica, was leaking gearbox oil aswell as going thru thru the coolant, the gearbox oil was leaking out of the CV spline, a circular spring that goes onto the seal was missing. After fixing that i then noticed red stuff was leaking from the same area i thought that can't be the gearbox oil, it was red, ended up bieng a coolant hose that goes to the Tjunction pipe, very small hard to find leak! but that was a sign of relief.

Try to find a ptach of coolant under your car after it's been sitting overnight.if so that is good. (compared to having a BHG).
Coolant will build up pressure when it's hot and might only leak then.

when you say coolant coming out your exhuast....my little 3s-ge celica when you start it in the morning sprays out little bits of water/something its not a gushing torrent but there's definatly some splutters.

also has a little bit of white smoke?
