could be BHG, or just leaking valve stem seals.
how many Ks does the engine have?
hi
i have a te72 with a standard 3tc
my problem is i started my car and it sound rough, so i let it run for abit then took it for a lap of the block...
the car felt like it was running on three cylinders....
anyway, i pulled over turned it off and popped the bonnet, couldnt see any obvious signs of oil leaking from anywhere, so i thought i would check the plugs and leads.....
now when i pulled out the plug from cylinder 1 to my shock it was covered in thick amounts of black oil??????????? cylinder four was the same, but cylinder 2 & 3 had piss all oil on the leads when i pulled them out.....
i put it all back together and started it up, still running like crap and started to drive home, halfway there my car started backfiring really badly when i was accelerating at a fairly constant speed, then about 30secs after the car drove fine?????
does anyone have any idea what could be causing this to happen??
any and all help is appreciated...
Cheers

Could be oil from the rocket cover if its not sealing properly. Clean out the plugs and look for the oil leak. Otherwise it may be as Blue stated
Hey man, yeah i have the same problem with my 2t/3t im thinking my problem is buggered piston rings, or valve stem seals as shineybluesteel suggested...i guess the only way to find out is to open it up. Also if you just want a temp fix you could try hotter plugs, might help fix the problem...for a lil while

This is very common issue in 2T and 3T engines. The valvecover leaks in to the pot where your plug is, and spark starts to hit the head trough oil.Originally Posted by limbo
Look is your plugs are swimming in oil, dont take them off yet, just pull the wire off and look how it looks.
And remember, there is at least 2 different seals for plug holes and they wont mix with different valvecover/gasket
